Official Thread on Corruption in Argentina - Milei Administration Cleaning up house

She’s already facing consequences, the government revoked her privileged pension and the benefit she received from Néstor Kirchner. Adorni stated that Argentina won’t allocate funds to anyone convicted of corruption.

No one talks about the corruption within Milei's side. Paying Senator Kueider and getting caught. That was th money he got from Milei and his party. Always with corruption here. Never stops.

Exactly! In the end, politics here is just a business. Promises mean nothing, it’s all about deals and money changing hands. They claim to bring change, but it’s the same corrupt system over and over again. So disappointing. And of course, this individual is using Milei’s words to have his expulsion declared invalid. Who would’ve thought Milei would defend a corrupt Kirchnerista? That’s when you really see what’s going on. In the end, it’s all a big farce, where personal interests and corruption come before any promise of change. Truly disappointing.

I agree that Milei comes across looking bad defending this guy. It's obvious that they paid this guy for his support. Defending the guy just makes them look even more guilty. Politics as usual I guess. We can't expect much different. All these politicians are probably dirty.

Milei is all part of the same corruption. These politicians are all the same.

I don't think Milei is involved with Corruption but definitely people in the administration probably are. It is difficult to root out corruption in Argentina. Will take a long time.

I agree Betsy. He seems intent on doing the right thing for Argentina so I would give him some leeway. Without a party supporting Milei, you had to know from the outset that he would do "deals with the devil", I actually see it as a sign of his political acumen, otherwise he would get stuck in the mud.

Totally true. President Milei is hell-bent on improving things. I've been in many meetings each day here with many bankers, lawyers, developers and everyone agrees things are moving in the right direction. You will always have to deal with some form of corruption here. As @CraigM mentioned you can get stuck if you don't deal.

What about all of Macri's hidden offshore cash?

I don't know, but would it be that unusual? Does anyone with decent savings have it sitting in Pesos in an Argentinian bank?

No. There is still not too much trust with the banks here. $20+ billion came into the system but many of these people will pull these funds out. Several already have. Most people I know that brought back some funds did it to buy an apartment or a car. Remember that even if you have cash you can't just go out and buy things. You will get flagged. They tax you on your declared assets and income. So it is difficult to spend money even if you have it sometimes. Many will never trust the banking system here.

What a difference a year makes. I figured that this President would turn things around and stop fraud. Instead every day it seems like there is another scandal. First the Libra but every day my friends send me new scandals that Milei is involved in.

Ha! Now we can just add all the Milei corruption to this thread.

Milei is just one of the caste doing the same thing as usual. Is anyone really surprised. Seems like every day there is some other thing he is doing wrong.

While I don't like when protesters get violent there are cases were people peacefully protesting are getting denied their right to protest. This is very dangerous and is going to backfire on Bullrich and Milei. Look at cases like this from this senior citizen doing nothing wrong and getting pepper sprayed!

I agree this could backfire. I hate CFK and everything she stood for. I went to protest against her in 2012 and 2013 in the many protests against her. As much as I hated her I have to admit that she never repressed or hit any protestors and fully respected people's right to protest per the law. The exact opposite of what Bullrich and Milei did this week.

I was also at those protests but it's night and day. We acted calmly and were not setting things on fire! There was no reason for the police to intervene. Just peaceful respectful citizen protests which is the exact opposite of what those paid thugs were doing destroying everything around them. That is Kirchnerism to the core. Night and day difference.

I agree with incidents like this. It is not called for and there are cameras everywhere now. Always someone recording which is quite different than in 2012/2013. Milei and Bullrich have to be careful now. Things will intensify more and more leading up to the October elections and they have to be more careful. No need to do things like this.
