Newcomer Buenos Aires in or out

The Medicus group plan for expats is still availabe, but it's actually Medicus coverage that is available though another expat group. There is a signup fee. PM me for details. I am only an individual who is very happy with the services provided by Medicus. I am not paid to refer others to enroll.

    Newcomer Prices - Health Insurance

Because the title of this thread deals with the subject of medical insurance I am posting an edited version of a post I made last night in the "Argentina: in or out?" thread. The information about health insurance in that thread might not be read by some members who would benefit from it: My...

Newcomer Forget Palermo - What are the Best Barrios for expats?

When I lived in Recoleta it was on Arenales close to Junin. I rarely ventured deeper into Recoleta but often walked to El Centro via Arenales, Santa Fe, or Cordoba or to Palermo via Arenales, Juncal, or French. The buyers of my apartment were three sisters that were 25-30 years younger than me...

Newcomer Looking for a builder for remodel of PH

And just what makes you think that you deserve a miracle? Sorry to say that the most likely thing to be en blanco (blank not white) is your checkbook.

Banking Opening a USA bank account in Buenos Aires

Thanks for adding this. Does this balance have to be maintained on a monthly basis or is $100,000 the amount required to open the account? I would not want to have anywhere near $100,000 pesos in an Argentine bank for any length of time. Even if the government never reached out and touched it...

Banking Opening a USA bank account in Buenos Aires

I don't think that you can open a US bank account at any bank in Argentina, even if they share the same name. Without a US address you cannot open a bank account in the US, even if you fly there. You don't have to live at the address you provide. I opened an account with Schwab on line in 2008...

Legal Reporting contact with an international fugitive in BA?

Just received another PM from my tipster. He suggested creating a woman's profile (with a photo of a hot babe) and contacting wpbbaires through the site. It would require paying for a one month membership, but it might be worth the investment to someone who really wants to "meet" this guy.

Legal Reporting contact with an international fugitive in BA?

I received a tip in a PM that wpbbaires has a profile on this website: http://millionairemate.com/ I used the free search on the home page by clicking on woman looking for a man age 27-28 in Distrito Federal. Not only is he a member (standard which means he hasn't paid to join) he is on line...

    Economy Officially Done with BA

While this could (and does) happen in the USA and Europe (just to name two of many other places), if this crime was committed in the USA or Europe the police would at least be interested as well as make an attempt to catch the perps. Not so much in the most European country of all of South America.

Newcomer Argentine Citizenship for foreigners: Can it really be this easy?

Just by coincidence I stopped by the juzgado federal yesterday to give them my cell phone number. The secretary said my application was still in the process of being approved and all I need to do is wait for her to call me regarding publishing the notice in the local newspaper. I did not ask...

Newcomer Argentine Citizenship for foreigners: Can it really be this easy?

Today, I visited the federal court (juzgada federal) to inquire about the necessary documents for applying for citizenship. The experience was surprisingly smooth and welcoming. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by a friendly woman close to my age, who seemed knowledgeable about the process. I...

    Newcomer Safety in BA

Even if this answer is sincere the neighborhood to the west of the "most desirable" areas (Recoleta and Palermo ) is Belgrano and it is also worthy of consideration. The neighborhood to the east (Retiro) is not so family friendly (or safe). PS: It might not be a good idea to take advice from...

    Newcomer Safety in BA

Of course it should but there are many factors to consider as well as crime. Assuming you are being sponsored for a work visa, the biggest challenge you face is deciding where to live and how to rent and furnish a desirable home for your family. There are a number of threads that deal with...

    Newcomer Immigration / Permanent residents

It helps a lot. I recently posted about this requirement and no one seemed to think it was being enforced. It's good to know that migraciones may be starting to get tough.

Taxes Hefty tax on property sale!

It's possible that there have been recent changes in the regulations, but as of 2007 and 2008, my accountant held a different perspective. During those years, when I held temporary residency and a DNI, I didn't pay any bienes personales tax on my apartment. In 2006, I paid because the threshold...

Taxes Hefty tax on property sale!

It would be beneficial to have more details regarding the taxation, such as whether AFIP imposed taxes on assumed rents. I concur with mariposa's suggestion that an appeal might not be in his best interest, potentially causing delays that could lead the buyer to sue for double the boleto amount...

Legal Reporting contact with an international fugitive in BA?

Thanks, Maria. I did this several hours ago (to the CO attorney General). Hopefully, they will soon contact the appropriate authorities in Argentina in case the individual they are seeking is (still) in Argentina (if he ever was).

Legal Reporting contact with an international fugitive in BA?

Does anyone know how to contact the appropriate Argentine authorities that they may have had contact with or might know the whereabouts of an indicted international fugitive in Buenos Aires?

This is the best post I've ever read in this forum.

Real Estate News Who are the future ExpatsBA?

I didn't take your first post personally but this one was very personal. What's defensive about expressing a different point of view? Who did I belittle? Why resort to such condescending pseudo-psychology? If you disagree just say so. That's exactly what I did, as well as express a different...
