Blue dollar hits a new historical record! 1,500 to $1 USD

To be fair we had to suffer all of that for years before Milei came along to sort out the mess. Give him a chance.

Culture Shocks from Living in Argentina as an Expat?

My biggest gripe is the way supermarkets operate here. If they operated the same way in the UK they'd either go bust very quickly or be closed down by the authorities for constantly breaking pricing rules. Especially when it comes to 'offers' which are blatantly nonsense.

Argentina has highest rice price in the world now - Thank you Milei!

No it's thanks to all the K supporters and their 'I'm alright Jack' mentality. What goes around comes around.

Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) in real-time

Probably because he's different? At least he's actually professionally qualified for the job unlike the numpties before him who obviously hadn't a clue what they were doing. 😁

Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) in real-time

Indeed. I suspect these people just can't accept they're easy K funded lifestyle is coming to an end. Good riddance I say, they have contributed nothing to the country.

Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) in real-time

I'd love to know what the Milei naysayers suggest he does to get Argentina out of the massive economic mess previous Governments have left the country in?

Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) in real-time

Indeed. However the 'short, sharp, shock' treatment was the only option they had to fix the economical mess previous Governments left this country in. There was no money left to do it any other way I'm afraid.

    Traveling before the DNI arrives

IIRC obtaining my DNI was a very smooth process. I just let my wife do most of it for me as she knows certain people who could 'speed things up'. When travelling I just used my British passport on arrival when returning...never had a problem.

Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) in real-time

Yes it's comical to think he can sort out the many years of mess left by the dodgy K governments in just a few months.

    Question to local members

Indeed. Just being part of Europe and having the Euro is a big plus compared to here. My wife has friends from here who moved to Spain years ago and they love it.

    Question to local members

I've lived here for over 16 years and just recently joined Expats after being given the nod about it from my fellow Glaswegian. 👍 I used to be a contributor to that other forum but got fed up reading the rantings from certain Argentine born members trying to force their blinkered political...

Desperation situation - I caught my maid of 12 years stealing from me toilet paper and food

We live here becase this is where my wife is from. Although there are people living here who work in Buenos Aires they don't commute daily to the capital as it's a 2+ hour drive away.

Desperation situation - I caught my maid of 12 years stealing from me toilet paper and food

We live 100 miles frm the capital. Our cleaner and odd job lady who we've known for 20 years gets 2500/3000 pesos per hour. She's very good and honest and more like a friend than an employee. I have to tell her to slow down especially during the hotter weather!! 😁

Who is responsible for the monthly (expensas) on a rental? Landlord or Tenant?

We rent out our apartment in BA and it was agreed with the current tenant beforehand that he'd pay the monthly extras. Which is all above board as far as I know. He's been there for a few years now and always provides proof of payment. He's a lawyer and the son of a friend we've known for many...

Politics Milei said that he does not care if the opposition does not support the May Pact and stated: “Cristina is not coming back again.” - Infobae

I think it was the only way to do it. No point in faffing about dragging it on for years. A case of sooner it gets done the better.

    Newcomer Mosquito invasion in BA

We bot got the Dengue vaccinations over a month ago with no side effects at all. We'll be getting the second dose soon. There is a lot of concern being shown recently in our area with the large rise in cases. So despite my doubts it was a good idea of my wife's to get it. Especially as I...
