Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

I don't know that they are all illegal. Some must be. Of course I have met a lot of expats from the US who did runs to Uruguay every few months to get visa renewals. I guess that's technically legal.

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

I agree with you that the expats who post on this site are a tiny group. I am not sure about their incomes but you may be right that they are relatively poor. Are these expats homeowners in BA? If so, their U$S 1,000-2,000 (presumably net, right?) incomes will go far at the present rate of...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

This is all true. A glass of wine in NYC is easily U$S 15 or more plus 30% tax and tip. That's for a glass. The subway is U$S 2.90. London is £2.50 off peak zone 1 base fare which is more expensive. DON JULIO shouldn't be the metric. But if it must be, compare it with a place like Rules in...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

Those from places like Senegal and Venezuela are economic refugees. They will likely become citizens. These cannot be considered expats in the same way that people who post here are expats. These poor immigrants were never having a party. Many of those who post here have hard currency, mostly...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

What makes you sure? I lived in Buenos Aires through the Menem era. The price of real estate was certainly cheaper but the day-to-day cost of living were generally comparable to the USA. A lot of things were more expensive here in Argentina back then.

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

Obama enrolled his daughters in a private Quaker school favoured by VIPs; Jimmy Carter enroled his daughter at a Washinhgton DC public (i.e.'state') school to much media fanfare. After a month he withdrew her and sent her to the elite National Cathedral School. The NYT buried the story in one...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

In Argentina, universities can continue to offer free education to those with low incomes, but individuals with the financial means should contribute to the costs. These charges would be minimal compared to tuition fees in the USA. Additionally, there is a question of fairness in why Argentine...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

If you think public hospitals are better than private clinics, then use them and save your money. The fact remains that Milei was elected President by a wide margin. It wasn't even close. Expats who disdain him will have to accept that he won through a democratic process. Rather than looking for...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

Let's see how this plays out. Ex President Macri didn't have Milei's boldness or determination. He was cut from a different cloth. Anyway what do you want to see? More of the same Kircherismo?

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

Perhaps my message wasn't clear. The existing system has resulted in a substantial rise in poverty and increased social inequality. The critical question is how to navigate out of this crisis. The continuous printing of pesos, with some distributed as subsidies to the masses, has proven...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

It is true that many ex-pats left when it got more expensive. There was a period when prices in dollar terms rose then later it reversed. Now it's cheap again and has been attracting people looking for a lower cost of living. This has been going on for a number of years but is likely to change...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

Dollarisation will take time if Congress even allows it. If he can follow through with his core plans the situation will stabilise with what will surely be higher prices including higher wages. In this sense Argentina would be a more predicatble and secure country but the social ienquality that...
