    I'm on my way!

Thanks, all. I did make a trip to the bank for new crisp unmarked $100s. Added s couple of towels, hand towels and wash cloths. Bed linens will have to be next time, after I find a more permanent place and know what size

    I'm on my way!

Leaving CA tomorrow, be in Buenos Aires Friday morning. I have my FBI and pension letter, apostilled. Sent myself some money by Western Union so I'll have ARS as soon as I get there. Just bought and packed enough hot sauce and spices to last a couple months, as well as enough toiletries for a...

Newcomer Can You Live Like Royalty in Buenos Aires on $3K a Month?

It still looks like overall the cost of living is substantially less than cities in the US (housing being a big part of that). It may have gone up, but none of those prices shock me. But then, my decision to move to Buenos Aires was only a little bit about money. If it was all about money, I'd...

A road trip through Argentina reveals the country’s wild beauty at its best - Buenos Aires to Salta

Yeah, I think I've decided it makes more to take a train to Tucuman or a plane to Bariloches, or wherever, then rent for a few days or a week to see more of the countryside. Like I said...I love road trips! but that would be maybe a week every couple months. If I stay in Buenos Aires, I don't...

Newcomer Passing on some advice about tourist SIM cards/chips

I just found out my phone is dual-sim. So I can just get a local sim card and switch back and forth for calls or data and for US and Argentina. I also finally cut off my kids' phones (I told them I was going to) and reduced my T-mobile bill from over $200 to $45/mo

Argentina automobile industry has a 32% increase in car production in January 2025

Automobiles are one of the best economic multipliers there is. Every one of those cars now has to be insured, maintained and fueled, providing more jobs and economic activity.

A road trip through Argentina reveals the country’s wild beauty at its best - Buenos Aires to Salta

Given the expense of owning a car, I'll probably take planes/trains to various regions and rent a car for a week from there. I love my road trips. I've driven through 47 of the 50 US states.

Argentina sees sharpest drop in beef consumption for 30 years!

Government can affect supply, but they don't set prices. I think the problem is business owners have no reason to think any change is going to last. Inflation will have to stay low for a long time before people rely on it.

Seeking Help: Doubts and Fears Before Starting Therapy

I've only ever done group therapy, but it has helped me tremendously to deal with an alcohol problem, anxiety and anger issues. No one has all the answers. As far as the cost, I think the improvement in my mental health has allowed me to be more productive, so it kind of pays for itself.

Newcomer Passing on some advice about tourist SIM cards/chips

Do you have free roaming phone calls? I was told by T-Mobile I only have free text/data, and calls are $0.25/minute

I'm not genetically Latino, but I grew up steeped in the culture. We lived in Puerto Rico when i was a kid, and my step dad was born in Mexico. Family is everything.

Argentina and the IMF: Can This Marriage Be Saved?

And taking on more debt seems...not ideal. OTOH, if the new loans are to get a lower interest rate/shorter payoff, it might be feasible. I'm still not clear on Milei's end game with the IMF

Argentina and the IMF: Can This Marriage Be Saved?

One HUGE difference between the current administration and previous ones, that often gets overlooked is Milei has quit printing money. THE cause of inflation is too many pesos chasing too few goods. If they continue that path, the next step is to increase the supply of goods, which requires the...

Javier Milei Launches Bitcoin Revolution in Argentina

I don't get bored. I go places and do things. And I'll be in country on the 14th. Not sure for how long. I may need to come back to the US one more time, for a month or so.

Javier Milei Launches Bitcoin Revolution in Argentina

She's pretty low maintenance, and has her own income. And I shouldn't say I don't think about money. I don't want to think about *making* money. Used judiciously, what I have will last til I'm 90, if I make it. lol

Javier Milei Launches Bitcoin Revolution in Argentina

When I retired, I retired. Sold my business, sold my house, sold my investments. I don't ever want to think about money again. Whateve time I have left is devoted to spending it. lol

Javier Milei Launches Bitcoin Revolution in Argentina

ETH is performing better than BTC right now. And it's the only coin that has an actual, real world use case. I bought a ton of it early and sold it two years ago. That's what is funding my retirement.

What happens if Argentina gets too expensive? What are alternative cities/countries to move to when it's overpriced in Argentina?

I might hit you up for a job when I get there...an extra $400/mo is always welcome. 🙂

What happens if Argentina gets too expensive? What are alternative cities/countries to move to when it's overpriced in Argentina?

I think it's safe to say, at least for people earning in USD or other foreign currency, the ARS will eventually go back down. Either gradually through a managed float, or suddenly through a complete removal of the cepo. At which time, buying power will increase again. It seems about 100% of...
