Are apartments selling faster than usual? A few properties I was watching are all gone now

I've run in to this problem. See a great apartment, and two or three days later, it's gone. I just quit looking online. I booked a place for two weeks when I get there, and I'll find an apartment when I get there.

The Hedge-Fund Trade of the Year: Betting on Argentina’s Chain-Saw-Wielding President - WSJ

Between the natural resources, a productive agricultural sector, tourism and an educated work force, good governance is all Argentina needs to regain her former status as a world power.

The Hedge-Fund Trade of the Year: Betting on Argentina’s Chain-Saw-Wielding President - WSJ

They weren't always poor. Why should the always be poor in the future? 100 years ago, Argentina's poverty rate was very low. They were an economic superpower, with higher per capita GDP than Germany, France or Italy. Mostly based on being a super exporter with a liberal trade policy. Her...

Any guesses where we think the Blue dollar exchange rate will head in 2024?

I'm old enough to remember the Asian Contagion when the Thai central bank managed to tank the economy of nearly every country in Southeast Asia. I'm seriously hoping Brazil doesn't do that for South America

I'm Doing It - Becoming an Expat

A: I do feel lucky, a little. On the other hand, I worked from the age of 15 to the age of 60 to be in the position I am in. I'm sorry if you think I just one day tripped and fell in to a pile of money. You couldn't be more wrong. I did years and years of 100 hour weeks building my business. B...

I'm Doing It - Becoming an Expat

Yeah, I think most of my work is on this end getting the background check and financial stuff certified and apostilled. And that $1400 is what I've read. If it's $2000, I'll still be okay. I, too, don't want to be a citizen, unless the current tax regime changes.

I'm Doing It - Becoming an Expat

It seems pretty easy (which is not to say bureaucratic nonsense won't try to make it hard). Proof of a pension more than 5x the minimum and mobile wage. That would be around $1400 right now. A clean FBI background check. Then a one year visa, renewable 3 times and permanent residency after. Or...

I'm Doing It - Becoming an Expat

I'm in New Mexico the last 2 years, but I grew up mostly in Orange County, then moved out to the High Desert as a grownup. Hesperia to be precise. When I left there 2 years ago, my electric bill averaged $500/month for a 1500 square foot house.

I'm Doing It - Becoming an Expat

Like I said...spent most of my life in California. I'm seeing studios in Buenos Aires renting for less than my electric bill was in CA. High prices don't scare me much. lol

Fitch Solutions was close enough to claim bragging rights

I'm Doing It - Becoming an Expat

my doctor will probably give me 6 months of refills. I would have to pay cash for more than 90 days (insurance thing). I've looked at a pharmacy website in Argentina, and the cash prices were pretty close to what I would pay here. I have contacted a concierge doctor there and she indicates...

Argentina sees sharpest drop in beef consumption for 30 years!

I live in Eastern New Mexico, on the Texas border. In my county, cows outnumber humans about 5 to 1. In Texas, it's even greater. The thing is, most US beef is grain fed on feed lots, so we get a lot of beef from each cow, though the quality isn't great. I get good grass fed and finished beef...

I'm Doing It - Becoming an Expat

His name is Nicolas Svirnosky Rivelis. I forget the name of his firm. He quoted my $1400 if everything goes according to plan.

And I have an appointment with my heart doctor, so I'll have 90 days of my meds when I arrive.

I'm Doing It - Becoming an Expat

Yes, I have my FBI report and SS letter getting apostilled now. The lawyer I spoke with said the same as you - show up with those in hand, rather than do it from there. He told me to have them translated there in Argentina, that a translation from here might not be accepted. Passport was renewed...

I'm Doing It - Becoming an Expat

I just turned 64 last week. Been retired for a couple years. The kids are all grown and living their lives, the brother I took care of for many years passed away, and I just have no reason NOT to pull up stakes and start over somewhere new. As a travel agency owner for 20 years, I had the...

Is buying a property and listing a fake price normal in Buenos Aires?

Apparently so. Which is good to know. Here in the US we have title insurance, and they assume the risk for any encumbrances discovered after the sale. I assume this is why I've been told to NOT use an escribano recommended by the seller's side. And no, I've not dealt personally with real estate...

Is buying a property and listing a fake price normal in Buenos Aires?

The problem comes if you discover a defect in the property or the title and want to unwind the deal. You could only sue for the amount listed on the paperwork, not what you actually paid.

    Doctor housecall visits for tourists?

I just had an exchange with Dr Stanicki at Care There. She seemed solid. I'll probably use them to get my cardio prescriptions refilled when the 90 day supply I'm bringing in runs out.
