Automotive How to get your driver's license in CABA...

Yeah, you can skip a few steps if you're patient enough to wait for an appointment with a sede comunal and you don't need to use the highways or rent a car. I'm not patient and I only got the license for longer highway trips, because driving in Capital is pretty much the least convenient way of...

Automotive How to get your driver's license in CABA...

I haven't, but she did her initial license in Brazil and said it was a nightmare. I know several folks who have gone from the US to Brazil though, and they've all said having a US license allowed them to skip everything but the psicofísico. I addressed this in my reply to @Vero and @import...

Automotive How to get your driver's license in CABA...

I haven't bought a car yet, but it's on the list for this year. As for the bureaucracy and hurdles, it wasn't that bad. The "Get an ACA membership and do it there" part helped cut through a lot of the layers. Most of it is just knowing how to take what Argentina asks for and translating it into...

Automotive How to get your driver's license in CABA...

The question pool is somewhere around 300 questions, but they're all published online and the simulator I linked pulls from the same pool they use in CABA and Provincia. As for the documentation, you need, at a minimum, a precaria and most likely a full DNI. As for the translation, it ended...

Automotive How to get your driver's license in CABA...

So, I've jumped through the hoops to get my license in Capital, and I have a pretty simple step-by-step for how to make it happen with a minimum of hassle. This is written from a US perspective, so your mileage may vary if you're starting from another country. Step 1: Gather your documents. If...

    Extension renewal experience. A warning.

Sadly I don't know anything about the renewal process, but that's because I went directly to permanent residency. I'm preparing for naturalization though, and I'll throw together a guide on my experiences once I formally kick that off.

Newcomer Bringing Two Laptops to Buenos Aires – Any Issues at Customs?

The only times my wife or I have been stopped post-Milei were when she was bringing in her pans from Brazil, when they wanted to stop and confirm that there weren't any beans with her cookware, or when we came in from our wedding party with a bunch of candy and sweets that my best friend brought...

Newcomer Bringing Two Laptops to Buenos Aires – Any Issues at Customs?

I’ve never had issues, even in the days of Alberto. I would also play the dumb gringo card with my US passport visible going into aduanas and when flying through aeroparque, would get waved around the scanners about half the time.

Argentinean section @ market in Cincinnati

Jungle Jim's is very much an exception to the rule. They take a lot of pride in their selection of Latin American products, and try to get the hard-to-find stuff. An Argentinian friend of mine lives near there and she loves it for that reason.

Visas How complicated is it to obtain residency in Argentina?

Depending on which country you're coming from, it can be easy or hard. Jakoval had it harder because Migraciones isn't super familiar with Thai docs and the embassy there seems to be full of ñoquis from the description given. I did it coming from the US, while married to a Brazilian and it was...

Are salaries this low for expats or locals???

I don't think it's anywhere near the norm. Yes, increases are starting to get ahead of inflation, and I do think they will go up a bit, but I'll also say my case was rare because it's for a US-based startup that could hire me en blanco through an EOR provider, and the salary I negotiated was...

Small US bills available at Cambios?

I will say the ABL has jumped considerably though. They were around 25k/month for Nov/Dec and they jumped to around 32k/month. Thanks Blacri.

Small US bills available at Cambios?

They've stayed pretty steady in pesos, around 200k. I expect they'll be higher in the winter with the centrally-controlled heated floors, though.

Are salaries this low for expats or locals???

Well, except that I found a startup who was willing to let me be en blanco in Argentina through their HR/EOR provider, so I jumped ship for 3x the salary. 😂 I'm too much of a capitalist for the Argentine system, as it is.

Small US bills available at Cambios?

Two years, local contract fixed in USD.

Small US bills available at Cambios?

For what it's worth, the banks tend to have smaller bills. My landlord likes greenbacks for rent, so I just pull it from my BBVA account the day-of, and I've never had an issue getting small bills.

Are salaries this low for expats or locals???

I wouldn't say impossible, but definitely very hard without high-level fluency in English and a solid cybersecurity background. Out of the eight of us in Argentina, only one hadn't lived in an anglophone country before, but even that one exception has parents living in Ireland. Everyone else had...

Are salaries this low for expats or locals???

1 - It was a mix of LinkedIn and having a very specialized set of skills that aren't super common in Argentina, and they specifically needed someone in Argentina who could interact with a US-based team. 2 - Residency was a requirement to get the role.

Don Julio now has $100 US steaks

The tomato thing got me. That, and 7k pesos for water, when I buy my water from the same supplier they use and pay the same for a 20L bidón. Even with the La Nación discount, I think I'm going to go elsewhere for my steaks.

Are salaries this low for expats or locals???

Pretty much security guard/person at the security desk. That salary sounds about right, maybe a bit low, but not too far off for the training phase.
