Argentina and the IMF: Can This Marriage Be Saved?

I may be a dumb blonde but why in the world would a multinational company even think about coming to Argentina. If the ones that already here and had profits can't get them out of Argentina what incentive do they have to try to do the same thing? Sure Milei may have a different plan but if you...

Argentina sees sharpest drop in beef consumption for 30 years!

I don't understand. How do the basic laws of supply and demand not work in Argentina?? It works most everywhere else in the world. How does this concept not work in Argentina?

Argentina and the IMF: Can This Marriage Be Saved?

I thought Milei hated and criticized the IMF loans before he took office? It seems like Caputo is running the show. Are most people in Argentina for or against the IMF loans? Online it seems like it's mixed with a lot of people against taking on more debt.

Newcomer Passing on some advice about tourist SIM cards/chips

I have TMobile and get free roaming on text/data and it is very fast. They don't like if you're gone more than 6 months to 12 months on it. But I got a warning that I had to at least visit the USA which did the trick. I think the calls are 25 cents a minute but I don't use it for calls. I use...

Seeking Help: Doubts and Fears Before Starting Therapy

My dad also did therapy for alcoholism and it turned his life around. My mom was going to leave him but that saved the marriage. My 2 friends in BA started going to a therapist there. I will ask them who they go to. But they say it has helped them quite a bit.

Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - From Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) to Today

That doesn't sound like that big of a wall! It seems like Milei is just sticking his foot in his mouth. I don't get why too involved in controversial topics. Doesn't he have enough to deal with the economy??? What does he have to gain by getting involved with hate speech...

Argentina and the IMF: Can This Marriage Be Saved?

Thanks for that article. I was going to say it seems crazy that the IMF would give them more money just to intervene more in the market. I can't understand how anyone can support this? Everyone knows the real exchange rate is not real so I don't get why they just allow this. It doesn't make...

What happens if Argentina gets too expensive? What are alternative cities/countries to move to when it's overpriced in Argentina?

Could have been my friends! They are Americans and getting ready to move out. They had it easy last year and trying to convince me to come down. Luckily from one disaster to another. First mosquitos and then people telling me winter was not a good time. I kept delaying my trip. I have not been...

    Why Men Study Spanish

Well you could always use a transformer to convert the current. :ROFLMAO: Interesting. So basically a club that turns into a pick up place after hours? They have some of those in Spain too. My friend and I went into one of these clubs and all of a sudden all of these guys kept coming up to us...

Record optimism among Argentine CEOs for 2025: Over 90% expect economic growth

I think maybe Trump learned a lot of lessons from his first term in office. He probably was smarter about who he surrounds himself with. So far so good with him keeping promises. I just saw he pardoned Ross Ulbricht so that is a good start.

Are salaries this low for expats or locals???

That seems like a great salary for local standards. Can I ask how you found that job @Darksider415? Was it just networking or any job boards? I guess it helps you had residency? I remember reading you got your residency. Could you have gotten the job without it?

    Why Men Study Spanish

Agree we are lucky as Americans that many people around the world consider English to be the universal language. Many here in Spain speak English. Probably the same is true for Spanish guys learning English from easy American girls. I see American expat girls hooking up left and right with...

Are salaries this low for expats or locals???

Bloomberg - Argentina Takes Steps to Dollarize and Holds Key Rate

Thanks! This was a great explanation and I think I understand it now. It still sounds very confusing. It seems like it would just be easier to just either dollarize completely which it sounds like they don't have the money to do. Or just operate with a normal exchange rate like any other country...

Bloomberg - Argentina Takes Steps to Dollarize and Holds Key Rate

This is all very very confusing. Why would someone pay in dollars? I guess if the store sets a better exchange rate? Poor consumers. This sounds complicated. I guess people will calculate if they can get a better deal going to a cueva vs. just paying with dollars in their bank accounts?

Bloomberg - Argentina Takes Steps to Dollarize and Holds Key Rate

But I don't understand. Argentina can't really dollarize can they? I thought they didn't have enough money. Everyone I ask someone I get a different answer.
