Economy The adjustment figures that precipitated a new Federal University March - Infobae

 Just crazy foreigners expect free education here. During the elections I thought the left was trying to say it was a very small % of the total and now we find out it is a huge amount. They should eliminate financing education for people that aren't Citizens.

Banking What is going on with the Blue dollar? Why is it going down?

Good luck back in the States @Vince! What would you recommend Milei does differently? It seems very divided here. People either love him or hate him. Almost feels like Trump vs. Biden.

YPF in Talks With Energy Transfer to Fund Argentina Pipeline

This would be great. I thought Shell had pulled out of Argentina or was planning on it last year. Maybe since Milei won things have shifted. I heard they used to have a big presence in Argentina.

Apartment buying process confusing in Buenos Aires. Do I need to use the seller's realtor?

I just got done with the process of buying an apartment there. I had the same frustrating experience. What you have to do is stop comparing the experience to the USA. Once I figured out that it is NOTHING like the USA it was much easier. I initially used a realtor that I met from seeing a...

    Of maids and supermarkets.

I think if people want to pay higher salaries that is fine as long as the employee is grateful and acknowledges that they are getting more than fair market rates. I have had employees like this where I was paying higher than fair yet they always complained. I had an employee complain and I...

Official Thread on Corruption in Argentina - Milei Administration Cleaning up house

The kid killed his own mom and tried to blame it on Milei's party? That is sick!

Politics Argentina and Uruguay Progress on Bilateral Permanent Residency and Licensing Agreement

Actually I don't think the process for Mercosur is too difficult in Argentina. I met a Colombian girl in Buenos Aires and it is like @enbits said. She got it for 2 years but she got a DNI pretty easily. I'm not sure if it took her 5 more years after that. I'm not sure of all the circumstances...

Milei decided to suspend the content of social networks and websites of Public Media

I'm curious? Just how many of these stations or news outlets are there???

Argentina Court Orders Milei to distribute held up food to the poor

Yep. This kind of corruption is all institutionalized. My local friends say that Milei will probably have to agree to look the other way with a lot of it if he is going to make progress on other things he wants to do. I just hope he doesn't get sucked into any of it.

Food & Drink Pizza Restaurants in Buenos Aires - What are some of your favorite pizza places in Buenos Aires, Argentina?

I like cheese as much as the next guy but they really overdo it in Buenos Aires. Half the time I see people leaving tons of cheese on their plates. It just seems like a waste.

What place has the best medialunas in Buenos Aires?

This place has great medialunas and a great bakery. My friend told me it's been there a while. I also like Pertutti. It has been around forever too.

What is the best Steak to order in Argentine restaurant?

You nailed it. That place used to be good but they seem overpriced now and in a rush. If they rush it and cook on too high a temperature it changes the taste and texture. My issue is a lot of bodegones cook things really fast now and in a rush.

Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) in real-time

I guess Milei is tough on crime! I just saw a guy that threw a bottle at him got 3.5 years in jail! Wow. https://en.mercopress.com/2024/05/14/man-who-threw-bottle-at-milei-jailed-for-3-and-a-half-years?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_content=main&utm_campaign=rss&ct=t(RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN)

Now Argentina want to join NATO as a Global Partner!

It is one thing with wanting to join the club. It is quite another being accepted to the Club. Not likely to happen. Milei is trying to get a seat at the big boy's table but Argentina is still at the kiddo table.

Taxes Argentina May Issue Bond to Pay $16 Billion Award in YPF Lawsuit - Bloomberg

No shot. It is one thing to win in court. It is another thing to collect and get paid. Not sure when their payday will come. Argentina will never give up YPF. They wouldn't want to accept Aerolineas. A money-losing operation without subsidies.

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

We make more but cost of living is much much much higher than Argentina. Some things are expensive in Argentina but things like rent you can get fairly cheap in Argentina. Try renting something in major cities in the USA and it's sky high. I am not arguing that Buenos Aires is not expensive...

Like a bad movie: Argentina's culture industry suffers under Milei

Some argue that you can't correlate a dollars to cents on things like the arts but I would agree that when people are starving and can't feed their families this does not make sense.
