What is the future of the Art and Cinema world under President Milei with all the funding cuts?

I concur with the notion that compromise is an essential element in governance. The possibility of Milei's presidency lasting only four months could be contingent on various factors within the framework of constitutional democracy. Unlike historical instances where military intervention led to...

What is the future of the Art and Cinema world under President Milei with all the funding cuts?

Ah, Milei and his fellow fiscal conservatives – they're like the anti-art crusaders, wielding their budgetary swords without a care for the existential magic of the arts. Prestige, international recognition, tourism dollars – it's like they missed the memo on the secret sauce for a nation's...

What is the future of the Art and Cinema world under President Milei with all the funding cuts?

It appears that many, if not all, cultural institutions funded by the government could likely function more efficiently with proper oversight. The answer doesn't lie in their elimination but in holding them accountable. An example of the challenges within these institutions is Paloma Herrera's...

What is the future of the Art and Cinema world under President Milei with all the funding cuts?

It's undeniable that the Teatro Colon could benefit from streamlining its operations to become more efficient. However, the resistance to reform from the strong union complicates the process. Even with improved efficiency, the reality is that the theater will still require subsidies, especially...

Economy Dollarization of Argentina 101 - Can we agree on what it means and how it would be accomplished?

IF this happens it sure won't happen soon. It would take a while to accomplish and HOW it gets accomplished no one really knows.

Any guesses where we think the Blue dollar exchange rate will head in 2024?

@Bobbie Burgers funny you should name drop about your golf match with el Presidente! I happened to be in Florida on Saturday and I played Chinese checkers with President Joe Biden. Engaging in a game of checkers with Biden was an interesting experience. I asked him about the USA economy and...

What happens if Argentina gets too expensive? What are alternative cities/countries to move to when it's overpriced in Argentina?

Yes, many thousands of expats in Ajijic and Chapala area outside of Guadalajara. Also there are many Americans and Canadians as well in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. Mexico has some of the best food, amazing history and culture, close to the USA and easy to get to and very stable banking...

Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) in real-time

Totally agree with you! And, like, those Nordic countries everyone drools over for their 'socialism' are actually super capitalist. Their cool social welfare stuff only works 'cause they've got booming capitalist economies backing them up. The twist is, some US expats have cashed in on or...

Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) in real-time

I'm not sure if Milei's got it all figured out. Only time will see if he is effective or not. But what I do know is, before Milei swooped in, our country was in a major crisis. Milei's thrown out this idea that there's basically no cash left, except for what the government prints. And we all...

How much should I be tipping at restaurants? What is the tipping etiquette in Buenos Aires or Argentina?

I tip at least 10% which is normal. Service isn't particularly great at places here but usually service is decent enough. If service is extraordinary or the girl service me is especially cute then I go to 15%. :)

Newcomer Life in Buenos Aires after 1 month of living here as an expat

I'm not aware of any city in Latin America, aside from Buenos Aires, that matches the sophistication and European-style culture it offers. While Montevideo and Santiago de Chile possess some degree of sophistication, it doesn't quite reach the same level as Buenos Aires. If you're not...

Newcomer Life in Buenos Aires after 1 month of living here as an expat

If property owners are getting rents like that for Buenos Aires then it means that BA is far from "inexpensive for foreigners"!!! I can't see why tourists would want to come here if Airbnb and long-term apartment rentals are so expensive.

Newcomer Life in Buenos Aires after 1 month of living here as an expat

$1,700 a month! I thought Buenos Aires was supposed to be cheap! I guess good for property owners but bad for expats that don't already own!

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

Medicare covers medical expenses. You have not even addressed the issue of the difficulty of someone 65+ even being accepted by an Argentine medical plan. Subsidized housing as I understand it is a modest % of one's income. How easy is it for someone with no network in Argentina to get long-term...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

I'm not sure about the costs in your area, but I personally know individuals residing in major East Coast US cities who manage without owning or requiring a car. They own their homes (mostly condos), have Medicare, and sustain themselves on moderate incomes. However, in Argentina, residing...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

Thank you for posting this link. I find it puzzling how the median household income purportedly stands at almost USD $71,000 when the data portrays numerous regions where it hovers at USD $50,000 or even lower. It's important to note that these figures represent gross incomes, which incur at...

Newcomer How to get to Recoleta Cemetery by metro

Yes, I agree with you @StatusNomadicus. I often times walk my dog and I'm an avid jogger as well. I run around the park in Palermo. Since COVID, I've been working from home instead of going to the office and even then I just took the bus. But for a few years now I just work from home. Like...
