The general secretary of the western section of the Railway Union, Rubén “Pollo” Sobrero, warned about the possibility of calling a “ 36-hour strike ” in the event of this Thursday's strike, called by the General Confederation of Labor ( CGT) , was unable to obtain a satisfactory response from the national government .

The union member expressed his discontent with both the current and previous management, describing them as disastrous for the workers. Sobrero stressed that the situation has worsened , which motivates his call for more forceful measures. “ I was always critical of Alberto Fernández's management, which was a disaster, and also of Mauricio Macri. I always said that he was attacking the workers. But now he jumped and made the situation worse ,” analyzed the union member.

If there is no response with this 24-hour strike, we will do another 36 ″ one, Sobrero insisted in statements to TN , highlighting the union's determination to increase pressure in search of solutions to labor demands.

This Thursday there is no train service, since the main unions, such as Unión Ferroviaria , joined the strike called by the CGT. A measure that was also adopted by the other union that brings together workers in the sector, La Fraternidad.

When asked about the impact of the strike on those who depend on transportation to get to their workplaces, the union leader responded “ look at the refrigerator ,” alluding to the economic difficulties faced by many Argentine workers.

Sobrero also criticized the Base Law, pointing out that none of the articles seem to be aimed at improving the situation of workers, but rather, according to him, they favor employers. “ Of the 262 articles that the Base Law has, none aims to improve the middle class or the workers . “Everything is in favor of the businessmen,” he added.

On this topic, the leader also expressed himself in other interviews given this Thursday. “ We are on our way to what the 90s were like .” Many closures of branches, many losses of colleagues. Besides, you add an Omnibus Law that imposes a tax on work, which is outrageous because while they tax the worker, they take it away from the rich ,” said the union leader in statements to Radio con Vos .

Furthermore, he maintained: “ More than a government plan, it is an investment plan for big businessmen .” This strike has a lot of support. From what I'm seeing, it's going to be massive.”

For his part, Sobrero spoke about the current state of the railway sector. “ The railway situation is very complicated because we have the issue of 6,000 layoffs on our minds . The company (Trenes Argentinos) has made a memorandum in which it has pre-reduced a series of layoffs and closures of branches. Specifically, it plans to lay off 3,000 people in the first three semesters, and another 3,000 in the second semester. What's more, he asked the Government for 54 million pesos to pay compensation,” he revealed.

There is a lot of reduction in services . In the electric branches it is close to 26%, in the diesel branches it reaches 40% and if you arrive at Mercedes or Lobos, the reduction is 80%”, he concluded.

Milei's reaction to the general strike

The President of the Nation, Javier Milei, today replied to a message of his that he had published last night criticizing the general strike of the CGT . The peculiarity is that he did it with a doctored photo. “ I don't stop ,” is read on the back of a blue T-shirt that the president is holding in a post published last night on Instagram and replicated this morning on his official X account.

It should be clarified that the image, in reality, is the one that Milei took this week during his meeting with the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino , during the meeting they had in the United States. The original jersey has the libertarian leader's name and the number 10.
