Trip Reports A nice selection of Argentinian wines at a supermarket in London

I had heard that more Argentine wine was ending up in the UK. Those prices look great!! I was recently in the USA and I didn't see much Argentinean wine at the liquor store. Hopefully that changes. Are these good brands or good quality @enbits
The ones at the top El Enemigo, Zuccardi and Catena (doesn't show on the photo but there were some) are top notch wines. This supermarket is called 'Tesco' and they have really good prices. I googled the prices online and El Enemigo Cabernet Franc 2021 is 20 pounds. I also searched for the price in MercadoLibre Argentina and is actually at the same price as in Tesco (16p / 20 US$). For comparison in Colombia they are selling it between 40 and 50 US$!!!

Wow that is impressive to find that in Paris! Those are delicious. Good to see Argentine products in Europe.

El Enemigo is cheaper in the UK than in Argentina :ROFLMAO: . Here at Coto it costs 25600 pesos and at a chino probably around 23000 pesos.
That is a good wine. I wonder how it is cheaper in the UK with all the shipping and taxes. That is clearly a sign that things are too expensive in Argentina!

It's also a sign that store owners are speculating with prices. Also in Colombia, a country attached to Mercosur, this very same wine is between 40 US$ and 50 US$. Makes no sense.

Indeed a sign of how crazy the costs in Argentina are when a bottle of the exact same wine is more expensive in Argentina in dollar terms than in the UK. In new markets, like the UK, sometimes they price it very low to get people introduced to the wine and get them hooked, and then they gradually raise the price. That is probably what they did in Colombia. @enbits are these prices you are talking about $40-$50 in wine stores or are you referring to restaurants?

Supermarkets. I think is insanely high, what's the Mercosur for???

Supermarkets? I thought you were referring to restaurants. That is interesting that they can command such a premium relative to the costs they are paying. With Mercosur, they can't be paying much to import that wine into Colombia. IIRC it is about 15% to 20% to import wine from Argentina to Colombia.

I am surprised so many in Colombia would pay those kinds of prices. Must be a lot of narco money.

High class ppl I guess. Since they don't produce they import, so you can find wines from all over the world. Last time I checked prices before my trip to Europe they were giving a lot of discounts % and 3x2. I believe is pure speculation, same with red meat.
If it's that expensive in the supermarket what are prices like in higher class restaurants?

I noticed the same thing @enbits on my last trip to Colombia. Both in Bogota and Medellin Argentine wine was very expensive. I thought maybe it was just that store but seeing your posts now I realize it is all over. I am not a big wine drinker but I brought some wine to a dinner party I went to for a friend. I got a $35 dollar equivalent bottle and thought it would be very nice. I came to Argentina and the same thing was about $9 dollars. :ROFLMAO:

I don't wanna know! XD, I usually buy a cup in restaurants and they are around 10 US$. Next time you go to Colombia get some good wines from the Free Duty Shop.
