After President Javier Milei announced that he would annul the 48% increase for the hierarchical staff of the Executive Branch , they released the decree that annuls the measure made official at the end of February.
Spokesman Manuel Adorni was the one who shared part of the regulations on his social networks. Thus, it can be seen that the repeal of Decree 206 is established, which approved the joint agreement reached with respect to the salaries of state workers. This increase was transferred to the salaries of the president, vice president, ministers, secretaries and undersecretaries. However, it became public due to a complaint from Peronist deputy Victoria Tolosa Paz , in the midst of the controversy over the diets of members of Congress. By way of illustration, the representative shared a table with the salaries of the main ranks. There she pointed out that the President of the Nation collected $4,068,738 in January and in February he started to collect $6,025,801. Meanwhile, an undersecretary of State went from $2,981,513 to $4,418,575.
In this regard, the President expressed: "I have just been informed that as a result of a decree signed by former President Cristina Kirchner in 2010, which established that political officials should always earn more than public administration employees, a automatic increase to the political staff of this government.”
“Every day that passes we find a new rule that favored politicians and harmed Argentines. With us, the losers are going to be the politicians. Obviously we are going to repeal that decree and roll back any increase that the political plant has perceived,” he added. These accusations generated a back-and-forth in X with the former vice president.
As seen in the image released by Adorni, the new decree indicates: “The remunerations of the Higher Authorities of the Jurisdictions, Entities and Agencies of the national Executive Branch are established, including those included in Decree No. 838/94 and its amendments, in the regime of Decree No. 1716/92 and its complementary regulations and in Decree No. 140/07, and of officials with equivalent rank and hierarchy, in accordance with the amounts in force as of December 31, 2023.

In this way, article 4 of the new regulations separates the increases in hierarchical positions from the approval of the joint agreements of State workers by stating: “The remuneration of the Higher Authorities of the Jurisdictions, Entities and Organizations of the Executive Branch national, including those included in Decree No. 838/94 and its amendments, in the regime of Decree No. 1716/92 and its complementary regulations and in Decree No. 140/07, and of officials with equivalent rank and hierarchy , may not be established within the framework of the approval of the Agreement Minutes that are concluded in accordance with the collective labor negotiation for the National Public Administration, unless expressly provided otherwise and will be established independently. However, the measure has not yet been published in the Official Gazette.
“In a time of crisis like the current one in which Argentine society is making a heroic effort, politicians have to be the first to lend a helping hand. The political joke is over,” Milei said when announcing that he would reverse the increase.
The President's Office also issued a statement in which they again targeted the former head of state, for having been the one who linked the increases for national public administration workers to the salaries of officials. “This measure was designed and executed with the objective of protecting the pockets of the caste,” the management stated.
“The inherited situation is critical and Argentines are making a heroic sacrifice. It is time for politicians to pay the cost of the embezzlement they have caused,” the statement concludes.
