The presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, regretted that the participation of political leaders in the mobilization “transformed a genuine claim into an opposition political march.”

The presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, assured today that yesterday's massive march in defense of the Public University was "genuine", although he rejected that the Government's plan includes the closure of institutions: "Universities are not going to close, no It will never be on our agenda to close a university,” he stated.

“If the position of the march was so that we, as a Government, would not promote the closure of the universities, it was a wrong march, because clearly it is not that we do not have it on the agenda, it would never have crossed our minds to break the public education and, with that, close them. That was evidently some sector with certain interests that managed to impose that title that is far from being compatible with us or with our ideology,” said the official.

In the framework of his usual press conference at the Casa Rosada, Adorni added that the participation of political leaders in yesterday's mobilization “transformed a genuine claim into an opposition political march,” and he once again demanded that university funds be audited: “Universities are not free, they are unpaid for those who study; Argentines pay it,” he indicated.

“Only quality public education is sustainable on the path we are traveling, the balance of public accounts and, of course, the audits that we deem appropriate in order to understand a little about how the funds are used ,” Adorni stated.

Along these lines, the presidential spokesperson pointed out against the presence of “certain characters at the center of the scene” and, without naming them, assured that “many of them are responsible for a good part of the adjustment that education has suffered in recent years and that Furthermore, they are totally responsible for the situation that Argentines are experiencing today.”

“Only quality public education is sustainable on the path we are traveling, the balance of public accounts and, of course, the audits that we deem appropriate in order to understand a little about how the funds are used,” he stated.

In another passage of the conference, the official referred to the possibility of charging university study fees or charging foreign students. “The tariff is a discussion that, in such case, will have to be given by the universities. It is reasonable that the education of an Argentine is prioritized and not of a person who comes only to study and who then only takes the contribution of the Argentines and does not return anything for that education that he took with him for the rest of his life." , he remarked.

“We have always valued that the claims are all genuine, much more so when those making the claims are students who are raising doubts about their future. And when they feel that their academic future is at risk and when they feel that things are happening that affect them. Which does not mean that the universities are not going to close, they are not going to run out of budget, they are not going to be left without paying for electricity. “We want public money to reach the student and audits are a fundamental pillar in all of this,” he insisted.

Yesterday, hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated in the City of Buenos Aires and in different provincial capitals demanding a larger budget for the operation of universities, within the framework of a strong adjustment that the Government has been making in all sectors. Beyond the fact that last week the Ministry of Human Capital announced the sending of funds to the different institutions, the university authorities warned that they are still well below the increase in costs resulting from high inflation.

Adorni repeatedly insisted on the need for audits to be carried out to “make transparent how the funds sent” to the universities are used: “If anyone is against it, it would be interesting to understand the reasons and, if so, debate them. Now that with public money someone refuses to be audited, it would be incredible,” he said.

Likewise, regarding the negotiation for funds, the spokesperson stated that last week's agreement is not the last, and assured that the dialogue remains open. “When there is an agreement, whatever needs to be transferred is transferred and the schedule will continue with new discussions and we will agree again,” he explained.

Adorni was also ironic when sending a message to the leaders of the previous Government who were present yesterday in the Plaza de Mayo and to the university authorities: “The speeches, more or less, state that in September 2022 the resources were frozen. It is seen that there was no need on the part of the university authorities to convince that the public university was going to close. At that time it seemed not, today it seems so, but they recognize that the great blow to education occurred two years ago,” he stressed.

“If there was a group of leaders, of picketing leaders who were fervently responsible for convincing third parties that we were going to close the public university, they have lied to them. It would never have occurred to us to close the universities, we are in favor of public education and we are going to defend it as much as those who want quality public education that guarantees them a future and puts them at the top of the world. Part of the defense of the Public University has to be given by the audits,” he added.

At the closing of his conference, Adorni once again attacked what he understood to be the main reason for yesterday's massive march: “Let's stop debating the closure of the Public University because it is even evil on the part of those who propose it, very evil. , because they play with the dreams of the people, of the students, and we do not want that to happen because we came here to give a future to those who did not have one. Let's end the farce of closing the universities, let's end the farce that they don't audit me because I am self-sufficient," he said.
