"Laguna House": its unique curvilinear design makes it an example of avant-garde architecture

A residence in a private neighborhood, located in the Villanueva area, in the Tigre district, has captured international attention thanks to its avant-garde design and its close connection with nature. After having been awarded, it could be crowned in February as the most beautiful home in the continent in its category.

This is a house called “Laguna House” , the work of the Argentine studio Go Arquitectos, which is nominated in the prestigious Americas Property Awards , where it will compete in February for the title of Best Luxury Residence in America .

With a surface area of 330 square meters, the house was built on a 850 m2 lot. It has 7 rooms, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, garages and other outbuildings.

The Americas Property Awards, of English origin, are one of the most prestigious awards in the world in this field. Since 1993, they have distinguished all aspects of the real estate industry at a global level. The results of this edition will be announced in London on February 20.

On the upper floor, the private areas have a super careful design: the master suite and two guest suites, all with terraces overlooking the lagoon.

Participants are evaluated by a highly experienced team of professionals and of the three shortlisted properties, one is Argentina.

This property, which is part of the suburban real estate market, has already won an award for “Best 5-Star Residential Property” and will seek to establish itself as the best on the continent among projects from renowned studios in Mexico and Brazil .

Go Arquitectos is the studio that designed and built the house. In this edition of the awards, Foster and Partner , the studio founded by Norman Foster that left its mark on Buenos Aires with the construction of the headquarters of the Buenos Aires Government in Parque Patricios and Aleph Residencesm in Puerto Madero, also won in the hotels category.

“With great generosity, the client gave us 100% creative freedom, without restrictions, to propose the architecture we considered most appropriate,” the architectural firm said.

This approach allowed for the creation of a unique curvilinear design, with materials such as reinforced concrete, natural wood and marble, which provide an aesthetic that is both modern and warm.

Axel Gerlero , director of the studio and head of the project, explained to Infobae that the design of the spaces was conceived as a continuous flow between the interior and exterior, with the intention of maximizing the views of the lagoon and privileging natural light: “Laguna House is designed so that everything flows. On the ground floor are the social areas: the living room, the dining room, the kitchen, and a large integrated space that also connects with the exterior.

It is the heart of the house, ideal for sharing pleasant moments with family or friends.

“The glass windows were key to integrating the interior spaces with nature , creating incredible views and lots of natural light,” Gerlero added.

Located in one of the most exclusive areas of Tigre, north of Greater Buenos Aires, and close to other mega developments such as Nordelta, which have transformed this region, “Laguna House” combines luxury, functionality and innovation.

The required quality standards included high construction and spatial quality, as well as an architectural circulation that allows for fluid passage through both its internal and external areas.

The property has wide interior connection with the exterior

The interior layout is distributed on two levels: “On the ground floor, there are public areas such as the living room, dining room and kitchen; while on the upper floor we find the bedrooms, which include the master suite with an integrated bathroom and spaces that open onto the terraces.”

Another outstanding feature is the outdoor spaces, conceived as an extension of the home that adds comfort and sophistication. These include a chill-out area on the first floor, connected by an external staircase to the pool, an outdoor fireplace and a curved porch that gives access to the property.

“The main gallery, next to the solarium, includes a grill, a cocktail bar, a dining room and an outdoor living room, ideal for social gatherings,” Gerlero explained.

Costs and exclusivity

As for its value, the construction of this property has an estimated cost of between USD 1,800 and 2,000 per square meter , which positions this residence within the high-end of the luxury market in Tigre.

However, the architect stressed that what makes this house unique is not only its price, but its design and quality: “It is in line with other luxury constructions in Tigre, but I feel that the design and quality we achieved with Laguna House make it unique in its category.”

In addition to this recognition, Go Arquitectos created an installation at the 40th edition of Casa Foa , called “Parador Mediterráneo”, which was also praised as one of the most innovative and photographed areas. Inspired by the shapes and movement of the coastal environment, this proposal combined organic curves with rest areas designed to connect the architecture with the natural landscape.

Go Arquitectos' proposal uses organic shapes that evoke waves and dunes, creating an environment where art and architecture transport visitors to a unique natural setting.

The prestige that the nomination at the Americas Property Awards brought to the studio was highlighted as a significant milestone for Argentine architecture.

Gerlero pointed out how this recognition encourages the studio to seek new opportunities in the international market: “That an Argentine studio is valued in an international instance such as this, and that it competes among the three best in all of America , is a huge pride,” he said.

The studio reflects its philosophy aligned with innovation and the integration of architectural projects with the environment.

Gerlero concluded: “We seek to innovate with shapes and materials, but always supported by respect to enhance the natural environment.”
