The Secretary of State of the United States supported Milei's economic plan and stressed that the United States wants to be a partner in Argentina's development. “We see extraordinary opportunities, it is clear that they have what the world needs,” he said, naming critical food, energy and minerals.

The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken , assured that dollarization is a decision that depends exclusively on Argentina , reaffirmed the support of the Biden administration for the government of Javier Milei in its negotiations with the IMF and referred to the challenges in terms of development in areas such as food, energy and critical minerals. Joe Biden's envoy to the country spoke at a press conference with Foreign Minister Diana Mondino at Casa Rosada after meeting with President Javier Milei .

Dollarization depends on Argentina, of course we want to listen to the plan and talk more, but that is a decision for Argentina ,” said the North American official.

He had previously supported the government's economic plan by ensuring that the work being done to balance the macroeconomy is “essential” and added: “ We see extraordinary opportunities in Argentina, but perhaps the most important and obvious thing is that Argentina has what the world needs and we want to be partners to help it provide food and energy to the world .”

Blinken avoided entering into controversy when he was asked about the trip that the libertarian leader will make in the next few hours to participate in a Republican Party meeting that will include a speech by Presidential candidate - and Biden's adversary - Donald Trump.

The head of diplomacy and Foreign Minister Diana Mondino spoke together in the conference room of the Casa Rosada after the meeting of about an hour and a quarter that the high-level delegation of the United States had with half of President Milei's cabinet.

When asked about the possibility that Argentina could replace Brazil as the main partner, the North American official responded that the United States does not have “exclusive associations . ” And when the journalists accredited at Casa Rosada insisted on whether Milei's trip to the conservative summit could have caused discomfort, he added: “I am not dedicated to politics, I am dedicated to policies and foreign policy. With this basis, I can tell you that we were pleased with the meeting with Milei and we are more convinced that there is a strong desire on the part of Argentina and the United States to deepen this cooperation.”

The official also supported the negotiations initiated with the International Monetary Fund. “They seem very important to us because the Fund can promote the stability of the Argentine economy and we welcome that work; "We hope it continues because it can strengthen Argentina's efforts to stabilize its economy."

Agenda global

In the conference given by both those responsible for the foreign relations of Argentina and the United States, topics from the global geopolitical agenda also appeared, such as the issue of the violation of human rights in countries such as Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, or the conflicts that compromise the stability and international peace, such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine or the consequences of the savage Hamas terrorist attack on civilian populations in Israel.

After touring the Plaza de Mayo and the Cabildo, the Joe Biden administration official had arrived punctually at 11 at the Casa Rosada, accompanied by Stanley, and was received in the Hall of Busts by Chancellor Mondino. From that place, Mondino and Blinken participated in the formal photo on the Italia staircase of the Government House and were taken to the Eva Perón Room to participate in the meeting with President Milei, after which they held a joint press conference. The North American official arrived in Argentina as part of a visit to the region, after participating in the G20 foreign ministers' meeting, which took place this week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

With this activity at the Government House, Blinken closed his agenda in the country. This morning he could be seen on a tour of Plaza de Mayo and the Cabildo. He then entered the government palace to hold an extensive meeting with Milei, in which other officials and diplomats from both countries also participated. In this context, the President stated: “ Argentina has decided to return to the side of the West, to the side of progress, to the side of democracy and, above all, to the side of freedom . ”

Blinken arrived accompanied by the ambassador to Argentina, Marc Stanley; the assistant secretary for the Western Hemisphere, Brian Nichols; the Secretary's Deputy Chief of Staff, Thomas Sullivan; to the Deputy Secretary's Spokesperson, Vedant Patel; and political advisor, Robert Allison. After these meetings, the entire delegation is scheduled to return to Washington.
