Guillermo Francos and Victoria Villarruel met with dialogue senators for the Bases Law

The Chief of Staff, Guillermo Francos , met this afternoon with the presidents of the "dialogue" blocks of the Senate in search of an agreement that will allow the Government to obtain an opinion tomorrow in the plenary session of commissions that analyzes the Bases Law and the fiscal package . Once the meeting was over, he assured that they believe they have reached an agreement and tomorrow they will seek signatures to ensure that the projects finally reach the venue.

The vice president and head of the Senate, Victoria Villarruel, also participated in the negotiations alongside the executive secretary of the Headquarters of the Cabinet, Jose Rolandi ; the secretary of Normative Strategic Planning, Maria Ibarzabal Murphy ; the provisional president of the Senate, Bartholomew Abdala ; Senators Ezekiel Atauche , Juan Carlos Romero , Carlos Maple , Carlos Espinola , Luis Juez and Eduardo Vischi ; and parliamentary secretary Augustine Giustiniani.

The now head of the ministers first held a meeting alone with the Vice President and then they called the presidents of the dialogue blocs. The meeting between Villarruel, Francos and the presidents of the different spaces lasted around two hours. Then Francos left towards his new office at Balcarce 50.

At the end of the meeting, Francos answered questions to the journalists stationed at the door of the Senate and, when asked if he thought that tomorrow an opinion for the Bases Law would be obtained, the official said that "there is a commission opinion that will be is going to circulate, in which there are apparently sufficient agreements to approve it.” But that statement was followed by another phrase that seems closer to the reality of the debate in the Upper House: he commented that "the senators will decide if they circulate it tomorrow for treatment."

“We have been having meetings, there were meetings in which many points raised by the senators have been taken, many points that were also raised by the different entities that came to the Senate throughout this month. And it seems to me that we have reached a position late in the treatment period, with enough consensus to issue an opinion,” he added.

Regarding the modifications that will be introduced in the project, the Chief of Staff pointed out that "it is never possible to find total coincidences" and that from this the Government "accepts as much as it thinks it can accept."

At this point he referred to the situation of Aerolíneas Argentinas and Correo. The Patagonian senators, who represent 25% of the Chamber, oppose its privatization but for the Government this is outside what it can accept and will move forward with the privatizations. “This is provided for in the opinion , we will have to see if the senators in the final negotiations agree to it or not,” said the official.

Francos was one of the most important voices on the part of the Casa Rosada when it came to negotiating, but his focus was more on the provinces with the governors than on the Senate. Now, with a more comprehensive role, the question was whether he was going to delegate to Lisandro Catalán, the number 2 of the Interior. “Francos is going to continue concentrating the negotiations, he is in charge,” they explained to Infobae from their surroundings.

Finally, and in the face of the tougher position shown by some sectors of the Casa Rosada that refuse to continue negotiating and propose to overturn the law , Francos sought to remove the drama and assured in the consultation of what could happen if tomorrow There is an opinion “we will continue waiting for there to be one.”

The meeting continued. Rolandi and ibarzabal stayed at the Casa Rosada. For now, although the ruling party is pushing the idea of a ruling soon, in the halls of Congress they doubt that this can happen.
