Stadium Information

The stadium was officially inaugurated on May 25, 1940 with a match between Boca Juniors and San Lorenzo de Almagro. The director of the construction project was the Slovenian-Argentine architect Viktor Sulcic who used to compare the shape of the stadium to a box of chocolates, thus originating the nickname Bombonera.

The stadium underwent several renovations, the most important was in 1996 when the preferential seats and VIP boxes were built.

Currently the capacity of the stadium is not enough to satisfy the demand of Boca Juniors fans. For this reason there are some expansion projects and even the construction of a new court.
