Claro Argentina , one of the country's leading telecommunications companies and part of the América Móvil conglomerate , led by Mexican businessman Carlos Slim , announced the construction of a new data center in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. With an estimated investment of more than USD 30 million for the first stage, which will take place between 2024 and 2026, the project seeks to strengthen the technological infrastructure of the city and the country.

The new data center will be located at 77 Brasil Street, a strategic point in the San Telmo neighborhood, and will have a total area of 1,300 square meters. This space will house high-tech facilities designed to improve connectivity and communications in the region. In addition, the data center is expected to boost the growth of companies that require high-capacity and low-latency data transmission services, which is essential for critical operations in various economic sectors.

According to the company in a statement, the new building will stand out for its modular design, an approach that allows for construction in stages and was selected for its benefits in terms of scalability and sustainability. By opting for modular construction, Claro Argentina will be able to adapt and expand the data center according to future needs, while minimizing construction costs and times.

The data center is being built under the Uptime Institute’s Tier III standard, an international certification that guarantees a high level of availability and redundancy in operations. This means that the data center will be prepared to operate without interruptions, even in adverse situations, which is crucial to guarantee the continuity of critical services. The Tier III certification also means that the building will have advanced energy management systems to reduce consumption and minimize the carbon footprint.

Kevin Itoiz (Manager of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Economic Development of the City of Buenos Aires); Ariel Aurelio (Corporate Manager of Implementation of Claro Argentina); Diego García Olmedo (Manager of Institutional Affairs of the Claro Argentina Network); Gonzalo Chiarullo (General Director of Investment Promotion and Foreign Trade of the City of Buenos Aires) Roberto García Moritán (Minister of Economic Development of the City of Buenos Aires); Alejandro Quiroga López (Director of Regulatory and Institutional Affairs of Claro Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay); Nicolás Zaballa (Undersecretary of Investments of the City of Buenos Aires); Mike Bachmann (Technical Director of Claro Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay); Guillermo Rodriguez Ortega (Manager of Network Infrastructure of Claro Argentina); Marcos Humphreys (Head of Infrastructure Projects and Works of Claro Argentina).

Julio Porras Zadik , CEO of Claro Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, expressed the importance of this project for the evolution of the technological infrastructure in the country. “The construction of this new data center will bring cutting-edge technology to the country and the city of Buenos Aires so that people and companies can continue developing the digital economy in Argentina. This milestone shows Claro's commitment to continue bringing quality services to our users with the highest standards in terms of sustainability,” said Porras Zadik during the presentation of the project.

The announcement of the new data center was received with interest by the Buenos Aires authorities. Directors of Claro Argentina and officials of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, including the Minister of Economic Development, Roberto García Moritán, toured the site where the works are beginning. During the visit, García Moritán highlighted the importance of this type of investment to consolidate Buenos Aires as a hub of technological innovation in the region. "Since the administration led by Jorge Macri, we have the challenge of transforming the City of Buenos Aires into 'the capital of innovation', so investments like these confirm that we are going in the right direction," said the minister. In addition, he thanked Claro Argentina for choosing the city for this project and the team at InvestBA, the Investment and Foreign Trade Agency of the City of Buenos Aires, for their collaboration in facilitating the investment.

One of the most notable features of the new data center is its ability to operate completely remotely through a state-of-the-art integrated monitoring system. This system will allow all data center operations to be managed and monitored from any location, ensuring efficient and secure management. This capability is especially relevant in a context where remote connectivity and digital management have become essential for business operations.

This data center will be one of the five most important in Claro's network nationwide, which underlines the strategic relevance of the investment. The company already operates several data centers in Argentina, but the addition of this new facility in Buenos Aires represents a significant step in the expansion of its technological infrastructure in the country. By improving data transmission capacity and reducing latency, Claro Argentina will be able to offer higher quality and more reliable services to both companies and end users.

The development of the new data center also has implications for the implementation of the 5G network in Buenos Aires. The advanced infrastructure and processing capacity that the data center will offer will be essential to support the demands of 5G technology, which requires a robust and low-latency infrastructure to function optimally. The 5G network promises to revolutionize various sectors, from manufacturing to entertainment, by allowing faster connection speeds and greater data transmission capacity. With the support of this new data center, Claro Argentina will be able to accelerate the implementation of the 5G network in the city, benefiting both businesses and consumers.

This project is part of a series of similar investments taking place in Latin America, where demand for data infrastructure continues to grow rapidly. With an expanding digital economy and growing interest from global companies in the region, Buenos Aires is positioned to become a key technology hub in the coming years.
