( From New York ) In a context marked by discretion and strict security measures, Argentine President Javier Milei and businessman Elon Musk , owner of Tesla and SpaceX, met for the third time in the United States.

This new meeting took place at The Langhman Hotel, located on Fifth Avenue, between 34th and 35th Streets in New York City, and lasted for a few hours.

To avoid media attention, both leaders avoided the main entrance of the hotel and opted for a reserved entrance, in a move coordinated with security officials.

Those close to the Argentine delegation specified that during the meeting they discussed various issues related to the implementation of the Ley Bases and the inflation stabilization process that Milei's administration is undertaking. The latest monetary measures adopted by the Ministry of Economy and the Central Bank were also explained.

The previous encounters

The first face-to-face meeting between Milei and Musk took place in April of this year at the Tesla plant in Austin (Texas), where they confirmed the personal and ideological harmony they displayed in the successive contacts they had on the social network X (formerly Twitter) during the Argentine president's presidential campaign, when the tycoon praised more than once the free market policies and the reduction of the state role proposed by the libertarian.

On that occasion, both talked for 80 minutes and agreed to hold an event in Argentina on technology and economic growth . “It is a great pleasure for me. It is incredible. Thank you for everything you do for the world ,” Milei told Musk when she met him in his Tesla office. “There was chemistry. It was love at first sight,” Gerardo Werthein summarized the spirit of that first personal contact to Infobae .

Less than a month later they met again, this time at a global investors summit held in Los Angeles , where the Argentine head of state arrived as the main guest speaker of the Milken Institute.

“Great meeting with President Milei,” the tycoon posted on social media, to summarise the second meeting in California that lasted about an hour.

Visit to Wall Street

Before meeting Musk, President Milei visited the New York Stock Exchange and led the traditional ringing of the opening bell of the trading session.

The New York Stock Exchange decided to invite the Argentine president as part of his trip to participate in the United Nations General Assembly, as a way of honoring the summit of the international organization that is being held a few blocks from the Wall Street headquarters.

Along with Milei, Foreign Minister Diana Mondino, Karina Milei, Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich, Stock Exchange President Stacey Cunningham, Economy Minister Luis Caputo, Argentine Ambassador to the United States Gerardo Werthein and presidential advisor Demian Reidel went up to the NYSE balcony.

The Head of State also gave a speech in an auditorium at the Stock Exchange: “I am not willing to sacrifice the fiscal deficit,” he said after describing the legacy of a bankrupt Central Bank , the risk of hyperinflation, twin deficits, large debt maturities to come and the failed agreement with the IMF .

"When we came to power, Argentina was basically on the brink of what would have been the worst crisis in its history. It combined elements of the three biggest crises in Argentine history," he summarized before detailing the reforms he undertook with the Minister of Economy Luis Caputo , the president of the Central Bank Santiago Bausili and the Secretary of Finance Pablo Quirno .

He also referred to the exchange restrictions and set a specific objective: “When the inflation induced by the capital control program disappears, we will be able to get rid of the currency controls without any problems , because they will no longer have bullets to load the weapons that can destroy macroeconomic stability. We will release the currency controls when the inflation rate of the macroeconomic program is zero . ”

It's probably smart to wait until Elon takes the plunge and invests in Argentina. Hopefully that is soon.
Most foreign-based companies are probably going to wait for currency controls to be ended first. It wouldn't be wise to start operations without the CEPO ending.
