The president wants to change the design of detention centers so that they are located away from urban centers. In addition, he indicated that the reform of the internal security law so that the Armed Forces combat narcoterrorism

President Javier Milei proposed creating private prisons and selling those located in urban areas
In the midst of the drug trafficking crisis in Rosario, President Javier Milei revealed today as part of his security plan to advance the incorporation of privately managed prisons and the sale of penal complexes located in the middle of the cities , with the objective of building maximum security detention units far from urban centers.

“There are prisons that are in the middle of the city, on real state land (sic) of great value in real estate terms. Basically, we are thinking about selling those prisons and with those funds building new maximum security prisons far from the city. That is within the program and we are working on incorporating private prisons,” said the president, in statements in an interview given to journalist Eduardo Feinmann on radio Miter .

As an example, Milei considered one of the cases of prisons that could be put up for sale are the facilities of the Devoto Federal Penitentiary Complex , located in the homonymous Buenos Aires neighborhood. But she hinted that the proposal includes other prison facilities around the country.

Milei explained the intention of this management model of detention centers in the context of escalating drug violence in the city of Rosario, which left taxi drivers Diego Celentano and Héctor Figueroa as fatal victims ; bus driver Marcos Caiola and beachgoer Bruno Bussanich , shot at his workplace.

The president once again referred to the deployment of federal forces in Santa Fe territory and the meaning of the reform of Law No. 24,059 on Internal Security , which seeks to modify the role of the military in specific cases. “We have just drafted a law to expand the powers that the armed forces may have in narcoterrorism actions ,” he explained, and specified that it would only apply in this type of situation like that of Rosario.

In fact, Milei yesterday headed a new Cabinet meeting in which he monitored the situation in Rosario and analyzed the guidelines on sending a new Internal Security Law to Congress to be able to intervene in the Armed Forces in the fight against the drug trafficking. The objective is that the Armed Forces can have “ additional ” powers, currently limited by the current regulations that in its article 27 only authorize them to affect “their arsenals, quartermaster, health, veterinary, construction and transportation services, as well as of engineering and communications elements.”

This point was discussed this Tuesday at the meeting of the team that surrounds the president, one day after the Ministers of Security, Patricia Bullrich , and of Defense, Luis Petri , visited the province of Santa Fe.

”We are going to send it. It is something we discussed today at the Cabinet meeting. Petri was with the law, but Patricia was on the return plane, but it is imprudent to make a final decision,” Milei said yesterday once the meeting was over.

Milei once again charged against “narcosocialism”

At another point in the report, Milei insisted that part of the insecurity problems in Santa Fe is explained by the policies of previous governments, especially what he called “ narcosocialism , which implies a shot at the elevation of the current governor Maximiliano Pullaro . . These reproaches, which have multiplied in recent days, have already generated a cross noise and tension in the relationship with the management headed by the president of the UCR, after the vice-governor Gisela Scaglia regretted the statements of the head of state .

“Let us understand that it is not a problem of today, it is a problem that was generated as Carlos Ruckauf called it , narcosocialism, inaugurated by (former governors Hermes ) Binner and ( Antonio ) Bonfatti . Putting socialists in the Government is not free, they not only destroy the economy, they destroy everything they touch; to understand the disaster that Rosario is experiencing today,” the president reiterated today. Furthermore, he attributed to the legislators of the Socialist Party (PS) a willingness to resist reforms in matters of security and criminal justice: “We have talked about advancing the adversarial system. It is part of the reforms that we had to carry out because Congress decided to side with the criminals. In fact, the socialists all voted in favor of the criminals . “We are working on equipping the forces and legally arming them so that the forces can act.”

And he added: "Sometimes we encounter unexpected resistance in Congress, but this has to do with the fact that many of the politicians are defending their kiosks instead of the interests of Argentines."

The President also did not rule out traveling to Rosario to personally learn about the security crisis in the district. “ If my presence is warranted, I will be where the Argentines need me .” It will be in Rosario or in the place in Argentina that sues me,” he concluded.
