The President is evaluating mechanisms so that the May Order can be granted not only to foreign officials, but also to Argentines. It was his sister's idea, Karina, to put pressure on those who hesitate to accompany the call. The general secretary is in charge of the organization of the Fatherland Day event and will send a delegation to Córdoba to coordinate with Yaryora

Javier Milei and his sister Karina will send an advance delegation to Córdoba, while they make plans for the May 25 event

Determined to make the May Pact epic , which he announced with great pomp in the Legislative Assembly, Javier Milei explores mechanisms to modify the law that governs the significant decoration of the Order of May that is only given to foreigners in order to be able to give it to the governors who obey his call. He seeks to give greater institutionality to the ceremony and reward those who comply, but also to pressure or punish the leaders who are determined to turn their backs on him or doubt the convenience of accepting the invitation to be part of his feat.

As the adjustment is felt more strongly, although he does not believe in politics or the State, Milei is eager to position himself as a guarantor of the signing of a great national agreement beyond political colors and parties. The event, as he revealed in his speech on March 1, will be in Córdoba (the exact location has not yet been agreed upon), on May 25, with the governors who will join in and the presence of guests from the highest levels of leadership. national.

There are still seven weeks left, the debate in Congress on the new Base Law, which conditions the “pact”, has not even begun, and no one in the political spectrum confirmed full participation. However, at the Casa Rosada they are preparing the details of the event. The main person in charge is the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, who is on an official trip with her brother in the United States but will send a delegation of collaborators from her area in the next few days on an advance trip to Córdoba to coordinate with the anti-K Peronist governor, Martín Llaryora, who toned down the recriminations against the ruling party since he was appointed host of the event.

The President summoned all the governors to Córdoba

The Order of May - initially called the Order of Merit - has an institutional weight only comparable to the Order of the Liberator San Martín. It is awarded to “ foreign civilian or military citizens who have distinguished themselves by their personal services and works and deserve the gratitude of the Nation.”

It was created, it was created during the first government of Perón, and then, in 1957, modified by Pedro Eugenio Aramburu so that it was awarded to those who “with their efforts contribute to progress, well-being, culture and good understanding and solidarity.” international organizations (whose) goals coincide with the ideals of the men of Mayo, initiators of Argentine greatness (and) forgers of our nationality.” The law indicates that it is only for foreign officials, so they are preparing a project to modify it. Julio Cobos had presented a project in 2021 to demand more specific requirements and prevent the list of recipients, mainly made up of foreign diplomats, from being handed out lightly.

The mechanisms for the delivery of the Order are provided for in the same law, where it is determined that those in charge of deciding who is honored are the members of the “Council of the Order”: the President, as “Grand Master of the Order” ”; the Minister of Foreign Affairs or “Grand Chancellor” (that would be Diana Mondino) and his Defense counterpart, Luis Petri. Cobos had requested that, once the decision was made, the Council was obliged to send all senators and deputies a copy of the Order to make the background information and information in its possession available to them. And that the legislators had a period of ten days to observe “the qualities and merits” of the proposed person, and then send them to the corresponding enforcement authority, who would be in charge of making the discharge and whether or not to continue with said application.

The diplomas are distinguished between “For Merit”, “For Military Merit”, “For Naval Merit” and “For Aeronautical Merit”, and have several titles and degrees: “Collar”, “Grand Cross”, “Grand Officer”, “ Commander”, “Officer” and “Gentleman”. And Council members can also withdraw it. For example, Alberto Fernández had taken it from Augusto Pinochet last year, as a gesture for the 50th anniversary of the Chilean military coup against Salvador Allende.

There is no scheduled date to move forward with the changes in decree 16,629, but Balcarce 50 were enthusiastic about the initiative. They believe that it will serve to give more formality to the May Pact, but above all to force the governors most critical of the President, Ricardo Quintela (La Rioja), Gildo Isfrán (Formosa), Gerardo Zamora (Santiago del Estero), Sergio Zilliotto (La Pampa) and Gustavo Melella (Tierra del Fuego).

On the other hand, they do not doubt the support of the allies of Together for Change, who were in the Casa Rosada with the Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Francos, last week to adjust the fine letter of the cut Omnibus law and will probably instruct legislators who respond directly to them to raise their hands. The leaders of provincial forces, such as the missionary Hugo Passalacqua or Rolando Figueroa from Neuquén, are still in a gray area.

In short, with the decoration of the modified Order of May, the Government will seek to mark a dividing line based on the cleavage of the narrative that it constructs before public opinion, between the “good Argentines” (libertarian officials and the part of the leadership who chooses to support them), and the “caste” (those who resist them or show dissidence).
