José Mayans, president of the UxP interblock

The interblock of Unión por la Patria in the Senate of the Nation will meet again today in the midst of the discussion that is being carried out with the presidency of the Upper House, Victoria Villarruel, to be able to bring to the premises the Decree of Necessity and Urgency 70 /2023 that repeals more than 300 laws.

In the last two weeks, the opposition bloc presented two requests to the presidency of the Chamber to open the chamber, both of which were rejected by Villarruel , who did not hesitate to point out that Kirchnerism "no longer manages the timing of the Chamber."
The response came from José Mayans, head of interblock K, who said that the DNU “is at odds with the National Constitution”, after clarifying that it modifies labor agreements and that this is paralyzed by Justice, the man from Formosa said that “ turns state companies into public limited companies for later privatization”, something that . "All this makes us see the urgency of dealing with it due to the legal effects it is generating,"

Once the established deadlines have been met and without the bicameral Legislative Treatment being formed where UxP would end up having 6 of 16 votes, the man from Formosa understands that the statements of President Javier Milei against the governors and the cuts that the ruling party is applying in the provinces, It generates a better climate to capture will in the Upper House and that is why he wants his request to meet next Thursday, February 15, to be fulfilled.

“We are one vote away from achieving the majority and they know it ,” explains a source from the UxP interblock. “That is why Villarruel does not enable the session because it does not matter what agreements he is weaving, he knows that we only need one vote,” he added.

The interblock that until last December 10 was the ruling party today has 33 senators and affirms that it has another three coming from one of these options: Federal Unity (3 votes), missionaries (two votes), Rio Negro (2) and the Santacruceños (2 senators).

In parallel, the ruling party in the Senate wants to meet but to discuss the anti-money laundering law . And, furthermore, by regulation he knows that on February 23 he has to open the premises to hold the preparatory session in which the authorities of the Chamber are elected.

The vice president used her X account to reply to the opposition senators who seek to meet to reject the DNU that deregulates the economy
Regarding this point, LLA has already obtained all the positions in agreement with the rest of the non-K blocks, so all that remains is to ratify them. In the case of UxP, it has to define who it will propose as first vice president of the Chamber, a point that will also begin to be discussed today.

In this scenario, Villarruel and his entourage are already thinking about a single session on February 23 and, to prevent the devil from getting in his tail and Kirchnerism seeking to discuss in that session the DNU met with the leaders of the other blocks and obtained the commitment to vote against that possibility. “We have two-thirds to be able to stop them if they advance down that path,” said a source from the ruling party.

But the risk remains latent. Martín Lousteau, president of the UCR and senator for the City, declared on several occasions that he does not agree with what the DNU proposes in several of its parts and, in addition, he asked the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, along with other representatives and legislators of the UCR, who formed the bicameral Legislative Treatment, something that the deputy rejected as inadmissible.

The bicameral is made up of 8 deputies and 8 senators. The 8 of the Upper House have already been appointed by Villarruel and those of the Lower House are missing. In both chambers UxP is the first minority so it demands 4 of the 8 seats. In the case of the Senate, Villarruel agreed with the rest of the blocks and only allowed them 3 places.

Senator Mayans said in this regard that Villarruel “violated the regulations” and that he subtracted one senator “arbitrarily, because it does not give them the average to have representation.”
