Trade unionist Aguiar leads ATE, the union most affected by layoffs
The State Workers Association (ATE) announced that it will mobilize next Wednesday to the Anses headquarters in rejection of the layoffs and the closure of 72 delegations that operated in different parts of the country, within the framework of an offensive by unionism to resist the adjustment and downsizing policy implemented by Javier Milei's government.
The measure of force, which for the union "prevents the normal functioning of the organization," will be carried out the day after tomorrow, at 2 p.m., at the organization's headquarters, at Avenida Córdoba 720, CABA. “They want the AFJP to return and we have to prevent it. They are trying to destroy a public and solidarity distribution system that once had the highest coverage rate in all of Latin America,” said Rodolfo Aguiar, Secretary General of ATE.
“The massive layoffs in the organization are part of a strategy to generate the conditions that allow international financial entities to once again do business with our monthly contributions. Those who still receive their salaries from the AFJP should serve as an example. They cannot even exceed the levels of destitution in our country,” he continued.
The state protest reached the door of the Casa Rosada
Furthermore, the union leader indicated that "this has to be a forceful measure that allows us to put a stop to the attempt to empty the ANSES" and maintained that "the Government wants to take over the Sustainability Guarantee Fund to flee it like they flee everything they have." these types of governments at hand.”
According to the survey carried out by the union, which was released in a statement, the dismissals took place in three batches: 350 who had joined as managers; 120 by the decree of Minister Luis Caputo that rescinded the 2023 income; and around 900 at the end of March. That is, “more than 1,370 fired so far,” ATE counted, according to the press report.
“We have defined this protest for the week in light of the seriousness of the massive layoffs in the sector. There are almost 100 delegations that had to close in the country because they were all fired. The right to social security is seriously restricted in Argentina at this time," Aguiar noted and concluded: "This week we are also going to define the call for our organic bodies to evaluate new measures and give continuity to the state's fight plan. in all the country".
Among the claims that ATE will make, ten stand out, the first of all "the annulment of decree 70/2023" that launched a series of reforms and openings of the economy that are being analyzed by the Supreme Court of Justice. But they also included the “immediate reinstatement of all workers and cessation of layoffs, both in ANSES and in other public organizations and state companies.
Also, “the cessation of emptying in ANSES; defense of the Sustainability Guarantee Fund (FGS); the regularization of all contractual ties and transfer to permanent employment for all workers; the salary increase that exceeds inflation; the cessation of adjustment policies; and the rejection of any privatization of public companies.” And finally, they will also demand “the annulment of the Anti-Mobilization Protocol that attempts to curtail the right to petition the authorities; "the cessation of policies of intimidation towards state workers"
