The latest report from the CPAU indicates that although the last quarter of 2023 had shown an upward trend in construction, this is not reflected in the number of orders in February of this year.
The CPAU keeps statistics on the assignments or presentations of plans that its registered architects carry out every day. The encomiendas are the initial step of the procedures to obtain authorizations for work, demolition and excavation and authorizations, therefore these statistics have a predictive nature, they tell us about what private activity plans to do in the near future.
Keeping these statistics systematically allows you to find patterns and projections. In this case, the Professional Council of Architecture and Urban Planning (CPAU) reported that the number of orders approved in February 2024 registered a slight decrease, both in relation to February 2023 and January 2024.
Although the last quarter of 2023 had shown an upward trend, this is not reflected in the number of parcels for the month analyzed. When comparing the last two months of 2023 with the first two months of 2024, the drop in the number of orders is 47% (from 798 to 422 approved works).
The reported square meter data shows an increase of 11% compared to January 2024, although it represents a decrease of 10% compared to February 2023. In relation to the last two months of the previous year, the first two months of 2024 shows an abrupt decrease in the declared surface area: -63%, a percentage much higher than that registered between the last months of 2022 and the first months of 2023 (-8%)
The demolition orders for February 2024 were similar to both those of January 2024 and those of February 2023. Since November of that year, the month that recorded the highest number of visas, the figures decreased, presenting a plateau in its variation over time.
