The head of the We Make Federal Coalition bench defended the measure and described it as “reasonable.” “There was a notorious delay in the Legislative Branch,” he stated.

The congressional authorities agreed to a 30% increase for deputies and senators , in a measure that generated strong controversy in a context of high inflation and loss of widespread purchasing power. The decision was signed by Vice President Victoria Villarruel, in charge of the Senate, and by the head of the Lower House, Martin Menem.

Beyond the criticism and the general silence of the legislators, in the last hours Miguel Ángel Pichetto , one of the politicians with the longest experience in Congress, described the measure as “reasonable and assured that there was “a notable delay in the Legislative power
Pichetto was consulted about the issue in the program hosted by Jonatan Viale on the TN channel , something that clearly bothered the legislator. “Do you want Argentina to be Uganda?” , was the first response of the former vice presidential candidate.

“Do you believe, like some of your colleagues, that Congress is very bad? Congress has shown high respect for the figure of the President, there was no shout, no aggression. We have even listened to the grievances,” Pichetto continued in response to the insistence on the issue from the journalists who were on the floor.

Viale and his roommates objected to the increase in the legislators' diet compared to the situation experienced by retirees, one of the sectors most affected by the high inflation of recent months due to the lack of updating of the calculation formula for assets

It makes noise to people, Miguel ,” Viale told Pichetto, who described the salary of deputies and senators as “reasonable” “in terms of institutional public responsibility.”

“Do you know what would be good in Argentina, if you cared a lot to see how much an AFIP manager earns, a Banco Nación manager earns, a director, how much a first instance judge earns, how much a chambermaid earns?”, continued the Rio Negro leader, although when they asked him how much those officials earned, he said that he was not going to say: “ I'm not a button (sic),” he justified.

The presidents of the Chambers of the National Congress decided to increase the diet of the 329 legislators who make up the representation of the National Legislative Branch. The measure means a change in the direction of the adjustment carried out by the national government and is above the average of the joint ventures for the first two months of the year.

Martín Menem, president of the Chamber of Deputies, and his counterpart from the Senate, Victoria Villarruel, signed the joint agreement of the workers of the National Congress in which it was established that the cumulative salary increase for the first two months of the year was 16% from January 1, 2024 and 12% from February 1 .

The measure , taken on February 23, established that it was for the staff of the Legislative Palace but did not refer to the legislators who, in general, have their diets tied to that negotiation.

The lack of reference meant , at first, that deputies and senators were left out of the salary increase . Much more so taking into account the process of rationalization and cuts that the La Libertad Avanza administration is carrying out.

However, the salary receipts of the members of the Upper and Lower House showed the increase and a national deputy went from earning $1,567,000 in January to $1,984,000 in February.

“There was a notable delay in the area of the Legislative Branch, where they were paid $1,500,000, $1,400,000 and the staff of the Legislative Branch were also deeply behind, and the deputy is in line with what is increased,” Pichetto justified.

I know that there are many beautiful souls in this program, they are all good, but let's continue ,” concluded the former head of the Kirchnerist block of senators to close the issue.
