“They should have jumped so that, first, they homologate the joint agreements of all Argentine workers,” questioned the union leader.

Pablo Moyano against the Peronist senators
The co-secretary general of the CGT, Pablo Moyano , today criticized the Peronist senators who voted for an increase in their salaries in a controversial session that took place last week. “I repudiate the shame that the Senate was, voting for a scandalous increase when the Government did not approve the joint agreements. Much more anger and repudiation for the senators of Peronism , who should have jumped so that the joint agreements of all Argentine workers are first approved,” he said.

Last Thursday, senators took 50 seconds to vote (and approve) a draft resolution on tables that implied an increase in per diems. It was done by show of hands, so there was no record, beyond the images, of who those who voted in favor were. Thus, the salaries in hand of legislators will go, from June, from $1.7 million to more than $4 million .

This resolution generated strong social unrest. Also at a political level, especially from President Javier Milei, who harshly criticized the senators. Less than 24 hours later, the La Libertad Avanza bloc announced that it will present a bill to roll back the increase in legislators' allowances.

“We libertarians did not formally want the increase. It was a clear expression of mine at the previous parliamentary work meeting. We did not want the increase and what this is about, because it goes against everything we say," said the head of the official bloc, Ezequiel Atauche , and pointed out that the presentation of the new project is so that "the increase in diets is not applied and the resolution” validated in the venue is suspended.

Beyond his criticisms, Moyano also referred to the participation of the CGT in the march called for tomorrow, Tuesday, to accompany the demand of public universities to update the budget.

“There will be a very important column of workers accompanying the free public university,” the unionist told El Destape , and expanded: “The majority of the affected students are children of workers. “The Government tries to throw out information to discredit what the mobilization is.”

University conflict

In addition to the CGT, the mobilization to Congress and the Plaza de Mayo has support from Kirchnerism, a sector of the UCR, the Civic Coalition, the Left Front and sectors of Peronism such as the Renovador Front.

With this heterogeneous support, the national universities seek to apply pressure on the Government and twist the arm of Milei, which maintains a confrontational stance with the university system.

Tomorrow's march was called for 3:30 p.m. The meeting point is the Plaza del Congreso Nacional, on the corner of Rivadavia and Callao avenues. It is expected that columns will depart from the 13 faculties of the UBA bound for the center of Buenos Aires. A place of high concentration will be Plaza Houssay, where the faculties of Economics, Medicine, Pharmacy and Biochemistry coincide; The Faculty of Law will also be added there.

The different columns will move towards the Plaza de Mayo with the intention of converging there at 5:30 p.m. The central event will begin at 6 p.m. There will be a stage set up in the square with a large Argentine flag with the inscription " In defense of the public university ", and where the UBA authorities, rectors of national universities, students, representatives will be located. of teachers and non-teachers.

At this time, the UBA drafts a statement that it prepares in agreement with all the faculties and other national universities. The text is scheduled to be read by Lucille Daniela Levy , president of the Buenos Aires University Federation , which brings together the university's student movement.

Although unionism and a part of the political system will mobilize, the UBA asked that it be under slogans linked to the defense of public education and with Argentine flags . “It is a way to give homogeneity to the claim and avoid partisanship that provides a breeding ground for criticism of the Government,” they stated.
