Court Judge Ricardo Lorenzetti warned that the problem of drug trafficking "is national"
The drug violence that has deepened in recent days in Rosario has both the national government and that of the province of Santa Fe on edge , and the situation has generated strong concern nationwide. In this context, Ricardo Lorenzetti, Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, warned today that the problem with this crime "is national ", endorsed the measures recently adopted and once again highlighted the need to create a national agency independent of power. politician on duty who faces the issue with a comprehensive view.

The events of the last week, in which four people were murdered "at random", have no precedent in the city of Santa Fe: it implies a declaration of war by the drug gangs against the governor Maximiliano Pullaro and the provincial Minister of Justice, Pablo Coloccini . “This war is not about territory, being united we are going to kill more innocents per year,” they warned in a message left after one of the crimes of recent days.

Given this panorama, Lorenzetti was forceful in his analysis of what that city is particularly experiencing, but clarified that it is not a local problem. “ This problem has several facets, many causes. “You cannot attack just one city when it is actually a national problem,” he stated.

During an interview on Radio Miter, the magistrate warned that in Argentina “ there is organized crime and a disorganized State,” and that is why it is necessary to take comprehensive actions that cover every facet of the crime. To do so, he proposed creating an agency independent of the governments in power, something the Supreme Court called for in a 2009 ruling.

“We must go to very specific issues: from the Court, in a 2009 ruling, we urged all public powers to ensure a State policy against illicit drug trafficking. It has to be independent from elections, where ministers and presidents change . The fight against drug trafficking has to be in an agency independent of changes in authorities. This is a great moment because there is a will to fight drug trafficking. It is a good time to call for an agency to be created,” said Lorenzetti.

“There is a circuit that comes from the border, we need to cover the borders, but there are courts on the border that are vacant . And there is necessary legislation like the one proposed now that is appropriate, transforming the system of jurisdictions. This must be transformed so that a judge, and especially the authorities that act in a repressive manner, can act in different jurisdictions. When one attacks one place, they move to another. All of this requires an organization and legislation that attacks the organization. All of this cannot be done reactively. When you look at history from 2009 onwards, it is ups and downs,” she added.

Lorenzetti explained that “ the agency has to be made up of several organizations ,” and assured that “ the money circuit is key . ” “If you dismantle that, you lose the incentive for crime. That is why we must integrate the FIU, we have important support with the FATF. AFIP and Customs have to be there, for the whole port issue. And there must also be integrated intelligence, data analysis,” he said. Furthermore, he put the focus on the prison system, and assured that “the Penitentiary Service works really badly.”

The magistrate also endorsed the measures promoted by both the national government and the province of Santa Fe, such as “ saturation, filling security forces and trying to solve the issue,” although he warned that “the problem is much broader, that “It is how this is sustained over time.”

After the gruesome crime of Bruno Bussanich , a 25-year-old beachgoer who was murdered in cold blood, in an event that was captured by the security cameras of the service station where he worked, the Casa Rosada announced the formation of a “ “crisis committee ” to intervene in the city with federal forces, with assistance from the Armed Forces. The Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, settled this Monday in Rosario territory to lead the Government's aid and receive the first contingent of uniformed personnel. Bullrich decided to spend the night in that city.

Until the weekend, the official and Pullaro had had some differences in the methodology of the fight against organized crime. From the launch of Operation Bandera, intended, on paper, to reinforce federal personnel and coordinate with provincial forces, to the promotion of Salvadoran-style prison controls, publicity that humiliated drug traffickers. And that, according to him it transpired underground, he did not have the approval of Minister Bullrich.

“What we really have here is concrete human pain: there are murders, threats and general fear, fear of the victims, of those who may be victims, fear for the future. And to that is added frustration and skepticism because we have spent years in which these measures that are announced never come to fruition. The problems are not resolved, they carry over from year to year. This reached a very serious point that could change the identity of our country and our cities . In Rosario it is clearly seen but it is not the only place. We have to make a very specific call for action to a State policy,” Lorenzetti noted today.

“The issue is getting worse throughout the country. “This is a national problem,” the judge concluded.
