From my experience they don't even accept these bills. I have been coming to BA for many years and never had any of the cuevas accept less than $20 and they gave terrible rates. Probably your best bet is to ask someone that is coming down soon to bring you some. I'm not sure if the banks here deal with smaller bills or not for those that have a USD account.

Try some casa de cambios. I don't know if they will have small bills but it doesn't hurt to ask. It seems like it would be a dream for them to offload those smaller bills to someone like you. I have gone to the one in Recoleta recommended before on this forum. Pueyrredon 1687 at intersection of Juncal. That guy allows exchanging smaller bills like $20's but maybe he has smaller bills. Worth a shot.

For what it's worth, the banks tend to have smaller bills. My landlord likes greenbacks for rent, so I just pull it from my BBVA account the day-of, and I've never had an issue getting small bills.

@Darksider415 is correct that the banks if you have a USD should help you with their customer. My wife has deposited USD in smaller bills and I think the banks here are obligated to accept them if you have a USD account. They get them from the Federal Reserve Bank.

@Darksider415 is your rent fixed in dollars with no inflation adjustment? Was curious if owners are adding inflation adjustments to USD rents or that is only in pesos?

After seeing many months of jumping HOA bills we are finally seeing some stabilization the past 2 months. Although they should slightly go up each month as salaries for porteros go up. More and more buildings are switching to the totem system. Buildings without doormen or 24/7 security the expenses aren't jumping up as much.
