Newcomer Taxi Scam Alert

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday, my friend and I exited Galerías Pacífico onto Avenida Córdoba, where we saw a group of taxi drivers chatting. We approached them and mentioned our destination. One of them quoted us 10,000 pesos, clearly taking advantage of the fact that we were foreigners. Instead, we walked half a block down and found another taxi that used the meter, and the fare ended up being just 4,500 pesos. I don’t mean to sound stingy, but I believe it’s important not to encourage this kind of overcharging.

Has this ever happened to you? Do you feel that some people try to overcharge just because you're a foreigner?

I agree just to use rideshare. Uber works fantastic here! I used it about 8 times a day.

I think overall taxis are very honest in Buenos Aires. You may get the occasional rogue taxi driver but most are very honest.

I have been in a taxi with a fast meter a few times but it is not common. I agree with Betsy most are very honest. There aren't many taxis now. Most are doing rideshare. Heck, even taxis are doing Ubers now.
