The Guatemalan street of Buenos Aires, in the top 30 of the coolest in the world

TimeOut magazine , dedicated to gastronomic culture and world tourism, published a new list with the coolest streets on the planet and among the 30 highlighted, a Buenos Aires street appears.

The City of Buenos Aires has more than a hundred streets recognized for their incredible details, multiple culinary options and ancestral traditions. From Avenida 9 de Julio, being the “widest in the world”, to Caminito, in La Boca, with its colors and tourist importance, the internal routes of Buenos Aires give the world something to talk about. But the publication decided on one located in the Palermo neighborhood: Guatemala Street.

With great gastronomic offer, people line up to eat

TimeOut highlights that the Don Julio grill is located along the road . There is not only barbecue and emptiness... The Malbec wine that is mandatory to accompany the dish and the long lines of people waiting for their table are part of the experience.

Buenos Aires established itself as a great tourist destination

He also included another cantina on his “to visit” list. This is because on the next block is one of the most notable bars in the neighborhood adored by the writer Jorge Luis Borges: El Preferido . The first opening of the establishment dates back to 1952 but now it has had a rebirth as a restaurant with great dishes, among which the artisanal sausages, sirloin Milanese and any salad stand out, because they grow their own vegetables.

Guatemala Street is a must-see for tourists

Two other establishments that the magazine highlights on this street are Merienda and Obrador Florida. The first is a renowned cafeteria that opened its doors less than a year ago, in August 2023. Thanks to its minimalist style and located in a glass corner, it was preferred by the Instagram public to upload the most aesthetic stories.

Following the gastronomic line that Guatemala maintains, ORNO also appears on the tour, one of the restaurants with the best ratings in the neighborhood. The wide variety of dishes they offer to their diners made this establishment grow, which never stops innovating.

To eat a good brunch in Palermo Viejo you have to go to Moshu , which stands out for its pastries.

Activities to do on Guatemala Street

In addition to gastronomic visits, Bikram Ardha Yoga is a great option to improve your lifestyle and have a unique wellness experience. With classes in Spanish and English, different methods and trained instructors, it is listed as one of the best yoga studios in Buenos Aires.

TImeOut also invites you to walk around and take photos of the beautiful street murals, which is an unmissable activity for art lovers. Murals of animals, flowers and faces make this walk something unique.

On Guatemala Street you can also find percussion class studios, gyms, foundations, hotels and art galleries. What stands out most about this route is the variety of buildings, premises, houses and activities that can be done.

That is cool that it was listed as one of the coolest streets in the world. It's in some good company. I've been on a lot of those other streets around the world. I knew this area would boom after the corralito and purchased many properties on this street. It's a great area but very touristy now.

Everytime one of these articles comes out the steaks get more and more expensive at Don Julios!
So true! My last visit a steak was about $100 USD. I wasn't paying so I ordered the most expensive one. It is all full of tourists now. I rarely see any locals going there now. I am amazed there is still always a line out the door. Everyone wanting their posts for IG.

Cool to make the list. I am renting an apartment on that street on Gutaemala and Thames. It gets very busy. It is super convenient but always tourists around. When this lease ends I will look for a less touristy area. It is ok for a few weeks but prices on everything are more expensive on everything due to so many tourists around.

No thanks. I wouldn't want to live in that area. Too touristy. Can you imagine living in the building next to Don Julio? Always with tourists all day/night. No thanks.

This. I spent a few months living on Darregueyra, between Paraguay and Guatemala, in a place I nicknamed “The Apartment of No Light”, and even being contrafrente, it could still be noisy on weekends. Plus, the gringo tax there is real.

That said, the chino between Darregueyra and Santa María de Oro had decent deals on instant noodles, and Obrador Florida is probably my favorite heladería in the city.

@Darksider415 funny about No light! I rented a few apartments like that on the back of the building that had no sunlight at all. It gets depressing after a while. Sometimes I can't tell what time it was! I love Obrador Florida! Also, Tufic is also fabulous too! But gringo tax is on everything. I bought some batteries for my remote control the other day and it was double what it is over on Santa Fe street. For a week on vacation I didn't mind it but months on end it adds up.

I am trying a few different areas out to see which I like the best.
