The meeting of the CGT Board of Directors where the general strike and the march to Plaza de Mayo were defined
The CGT decided to call the second general strike against the government of Javier Milei, which will take place on May 9. This is a forceful measure that was taken less than a day after being received at the Casa Rosada by national officials. In addition, they resolved to hold a massive mobilization to Plaza de Mayo for May 1 -Worker's Day- in protest against the Government's policies.
The decision was debated from 2:30 p.m. by the Cegetista Board of Directors at the headquarters of Azopardo 802, where what was discussed 24 hours ago with the Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Francos, was analyzed; the Chief of Staff, Nicolás Posse, and the Secretary of Labor, Julio Cordero.
The dialogue sector of the CGT proposed carrying out the strike after the mobilization of May 1, in commemoration of Workers' Day, to measure the response of its bases before carrying out another strike, while the combative faction wanted to carry out the strike as soon as possible. before.
The CGT met for the first time with the Government
In any case, the Cegetista leaders had already told national officials that this Thursday a date was going to be set for “direct action measures” (in reference to the second general strike after the one that took place on January 24, for 12 hours). with mobilization) and that the concentration in the Plaza de Mayo was going to be ratified.
However, in the Casa Rosada they did not ask them to cancel or postpone the forceful measures and they made gestures of good will towards the heads of the CGT: they apologized for not having called them to dialogue before and for not having agreed on the labor reform. of the DNU 70. And, in addition, they promised to discuss at a joint table the content of a “modernization” of labor legislation (it was agreed not to speak of “reform”) to include it in the Base Law, but without the articles that irritated the union leadership because they put their power structure at risk.
The Government representatives also requested “support for 2 or 3 months” with salary agreements that do not exceed the expected inflation , for which they guaranteed, through Cordero, that the pace of approvals that accumulate without approval will be accelerated.
The unionists warned that they negotiate joint agreements with “responsibility” and that “salaries are not the central issue of Argentina's macroeconomic problems,” which is why they reject the delay in standardizing some agreements. Cordero explained that he was only now able to complete his team and thus begin to catch up with the homologations. “Now everything is becoming normal ,” he said.
Two of the co-heads of the CGT were present at the Casa Rosada meeting , Héctor Daer (Health) and Carlos Acuña (service stations), but the third member of the leadership triumvirate, Pablo Moyano, who was surprisingly replaced by his Dad, Hugo Moyano. The head of the Truckers Union took advantage of the contact with the libertarian officials to raise his complaint about the lack of approval of his last salary increase, of 45% for March and April.

In a climate of certain tension between the Government and the CGT, Moyano gave in to the official refusal to approve the joint agreement by accepting a renegotiation of the agreement, leaving the one that had been signed void, in a scheme still under discussion that would have a validity of four months , from March to June, with increases in line with the decrease in inflation, as the Ministry of Economy wants.
