The CGT video to call for the university march
The CGT will make a strong bet on the Federal University March this Tuesday : it plans to mobilize some 20,000 protesters from its main unions and the column will be led by its top leaders. “We are going to defend public education,” said a Cegetista executive.

The union activists will gather at 2:30 p.m. on Entre Ríos and Hipólito Yrigoyen avenues, in front of the National Congress, while the other workers' confederations chose their own meeting places to begin the march to the Plaza de Mayo: the Workers' CTA, led by Hugo Yasky, will meet at 3:30 p.m. on Avenida de Mayo and Luis Sáenz Peña, and the CTA Autonomous, led by Hugo “Cachorro” Godoy, will group its militants in the same place, but at 2:30 p.m.

The organizers of the march decided that the columns will be led by the universities and the unions that represent their workers, then the CGT and the two CTA and finally the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP) and the social movements.

To make its position official, the CGT broadcast a video on social networks that includes testimonies from workers in favor of public education and against “educational defunding.”

For the CGT, participation in the university march will mark the beginning of the new stage of its plan to fight against the Government, which will continue with the street mobilization on May 1 in front of the Monument to Work, on Paseo Colón and Independencia, and the 24-hour general strike on May 9.

Beyond adhering to the demands of the university sector, the CGT seeks to ingratiate itself with a part of society that traditionally looked askance at unionism and obtain support that can later join the mobilization for Workers' Day. Even so, the Cegetista leader changed the setting for her street protest: it will take place in front of the Monument to Labor and not in the Plaza de Mayo.

The fear of infiltrators causing acts of violence was the main cause of the new scenery chosen for the CGT rally. The other, according to him, is to prevent the protesters from being so close to the Casa Rosada and to offer that gesture of good will to the Government as a “pledge of peace” amid the tensions between the two sectors.

When speaking about support for the Federal University March, the co-head of the CGT Pablo Moyano (Truckers) anticipated that “there will be a very important column of workers accompanying the public and free university.” “The majority of the affected students are children of workers. The Government is trying to throw out information to discredit what the mobilization is,” said the leader in statements to radio El Destape.

Luis Barrionuevo said that Javier Milei “has no idea of the danger” and that “with the policy he is carrying out, and with the incapable people around him, the country is not going to work.”
Luis Barrionuevo, head of the Gastronomic Union, a former ally of Javier Milei who became a fierce opponent of the Government, also gave his opinion on the issue : he endorsed the CGT's support for Tuesday's march and said that " there are plenty of arguments for "that we workers are on the streets."

He considered that Milei “has no idea of the danger” and that “with the policy he is carrying out, and with the incapable people around him, the country is not going to work.” And he added: “We are going very badly. Since January we have been at a dead end. We have already experienced these adjustments.”

He added that "if (the President) wants to close the fiscal issue with teachers, transportation, security and health, he has no idea what it means to govern for all Argentines."
