The recent Casa FOA exhibition showed new developments in kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, open spaces and coworking areas
By José Luis Cieri
Contemporary kitchens feature ample storage spaces and built-in cupboards. The countertops are ultra-resistant and in light tones as a trend.
For 39 years, Casa FOA has set the course for the design and guidelines in the construction of homes and other types of properties. The event became a meeting point for designers, architects, interior designers and landscapers who share their explorations and discoveries with the public.
The 2023 edition culminated in the emblematic building of the former Federal Tire in Núñez, where the inspiring Innovation Park was brought to life. A total of 46 studios specialized in home decoration and architecture came together to reveal trends that will define the home of the future.
Juan Blas Fernández, manager of Casa FOA, shared with Infobae his enthusiasm regarding the edition that recently ended: “We believe that it is the best exhibition of the last ten years in which we have exceeded our highest expectations. We are pleased with the high quality of the exhibitors, designers, architects and sponsors who have supported this edition at the Innovation Park. This year, we have been surprised by the excellence in the finishes that the exhibitors have achieved.”
The building of the former Federal Tire will seek to rescue and recover, it is a national monument and there will be a mixed-use project that includes a health center, gastronomic and work spaces.
In addition, he highlighted the transformative potential of the area in Buenos Aires where the event took place. The Buenos Aires Government has outlined the Innovation Park, a project that is envisioned as a center for technological research, academic institutions, startups, offices, homes and coworking spaces in the coming years.
Since its inception in 1985 with the purpose of raising funds for the Jorge Malbran Argentine Ophthalmological Foundation Casa FOA has evolved. Under this year's motto, “design communicates,” the exhibition invited us to reflect on how design goes beyond the mere creation of objects and spaces.

“Sustainable and durable materials reflect our commitment to the environment. Each year, we strive to ensure that all materials used in the display are of sustainable origin and destination. The integration of technology, including artificial intelligence, plays a crucial role in sustainability by generating significant energy savings,” said Fernández.
Experts maintain that the appreciation of nature as a source of well-being enters the house while technology and design undertake a search for development and research so that comfort is part of the outdoor equipment.
Carolina “Pampita” Ardohain, participated in her role as designer and in the decoration of the room for the little ones.
Pamela Martos, in charge of the Loft 39 space at Casa FOA, is a textile designer dedicated to interior design, from G2 architecture + interior design studio, and told Infobae that: “The creation of spaces that connect the interior with the exterior in a fluid way is a trend solid that is here to stay. We observe the inclusion of elements such as winter gardens, vertical gardens and orchards in our kitchens, transforming our homes into more natural and welcoming environments.”
Another trend without a doubt is the search for regenerated materials that surpass genuine materials in quality and performance, polymers of stones, marbles and even ground glass integrated with resin create new textures that in many cases become flexible to cover curved and organic surfaces in total harmony with the environment.
This year, one of the most outstanding spaces was “La Cafetería”, designed by Fernando Russi and Nicolás Mogetta, which was awarded the main prize by the jury composed of Martín Zanotti, Jorge Muradas, María Zunino, Paula D'Elía and Monica Melhem.

Another novelty of the 2023 edition was the participation of Carolina “ Pampita ” Ardohain , who in her role as designer collaborated with the Fontenla team in the creation and curation of a room called “Boys' Room”.
The objective of this proposal is to provide children, from babies to teenagers, with a sensory-friendly space that invites them to rest, play, study, create and share in a harmonious environment inspired by nature. Materials such as linen, cotton, velvet and wood are used in a modern and functional style, with soft colors in raw tones, beige and white, accented by gray and touches of green provided by olive trees, symbols of peace and celebration.
Islands and peninsulas protagonists of contemporary kitchens.
Kitchens were observed with warm tones and highly resistant materials in countertops and sinks, with islands and large storage spaces, responding to a growing demand. In the post-pandemic era, the kitchen has acquired a unique role, since it is not only used for food preparation, but also as a meeting space, social gathering and even work. This is complemented by large cupboards that allow storage of all the designer tableware.
The presence of green elements is manifested in both interior and exterior spaces. In bathrooms, spas and laundry rooms, their relevance increases, as they contribute to enriching the sensory experience of the environment. Similarly, in studios or work areas, nature acts as a channel to encourage concentration and improve air quality.
Nature present in bathrooms and spas.
On the other hand, light, both natural and artificial, is elegantly combined in these spaces. Transparency plays a fundamental role and, sometimes, takes a leading role, as happens with elements such as glass mandalas suspended in installations. This was seen in kitchens, living rooms and bathrooms, above all.
A bedroom that comes with innovative closets and smart systems to operate home functions.
This is how you can decorate and design a modern workspace: coworking is here to stay.
In the center, a large table with a green quartzite top functions as a flexible workstation and meeting table.
On the sides of the table, two groups of desks with the possibility of varying height and state-of-the-art ergonomic chairs are intended for fixed workstations.

The former Federal Tire building will be rescued and then transformed into a gastronomy, health center and mixed-use project. This property located in Núñez was declared a national historic monument in 2005.
The 46 spaces had in common the careful design for the equipment of bathrooms, kitchens, outdoor spaces and for the home, which respond to the contemporary and urban style.

What cannot be missing in a modern home
This year, the most notable trends in design include the integration of nature into spaces, the prominence of art and the creation of immersive environments that stimulate the senses.“Sustainable and durable materials reflect our commitment to the environment. Place to work
Architect María Beatriz González Zuelgaray , from the Space coworking space with Grupo (a) 2, highlighted to Infobae that “this proposal sought to create a fresh and versatile coworking space, promoting creativity and teamwork through a flexible layout. that takes advantage of the characteristics of the building. Highlights the existing structure, uses the orthogonal grid of the ceiling highlighted with color and adds white volumes with geometric openwork. In addition, it integrates oases of vegetation throughout the plant to provide freshness and calm to the work environment. This is how you can decorate and design a modern workspace: coworking is here to stay.
