Since its inauguration, back in 2015, the CCK (Kirchner Cultural Center) generated controversy
The Government of Javier Milei will change the name of the Kirchner Cultural Center. It will be called the Freedom Palace. The building depends on the Ministry of Culture, under the wing of the Ministry of Human Capital headed by Sandra Pettovello, but the decision was adopted by the Casa Rosada.
The presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, confirmed it through a brief post on his X account (former Twitter). The same official had anticipated the government's idea of “deskirchnerizing” the names of public buildings identified with the previous management on March 26. “ It has finally been decided to change the name of the Kirchner Cultural Center (CCK), so it will no longer be called as such and will effectively give way to a new name ,” he said that day. Now that intention is close to being realized.
The government determination would be made through a decree of necessity and urgency. In November 2012, Law 26,794 was sanctioned and promulgated, which modified the original name of the Bicentennial Cultural Center to “President Dr. Néstor Carlos Kirchner.” To repeal it, another law or a DNU is necessary.
For the old Post Office and Communications Palace in downtown Buenos Aires, other names linked to culture had been considered, such as Jorge Luis Borges or heroes more aligned with liberal thought, such as Domingo Faustino Sarmiento and Julio Argentino Roca.
