Within the framework of the reduction of public spending and the reduction of the number of public employees that the national State has, the Government today announced two particular layoffs: these are tourism officials who for several years received significant salaries in dollars, for a total amount of several million US currency.

The announcement was made today by the presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, during the usual press conference held from the Casa Rosada.

“The decision was made to fire two officials from the tourism portfolio: a tourism delegate in Miami and another in Paris,” Adorni announced.

The official explained that “in the first case, the Miami delegate had a monthly salary of 13 thousand dollars for 31 years,” while the second “had received about 9 thousand dollars per month for 11 years.” If these salaries are multiplied by the approximate number of months they served in those positions, the amount exceeds 4.5 million pesos.

“These dismissals were followed up, part of the great delirium that was found in the beloved Argentine Republic,” concluded the spokesperson, who avoided giving further details about who the officials were.

In a decision that responds to the objective of reducing State spending, the Government has announced the closure of different agencies of the national State, with the consequent dismissal of employees. This same week, Adorni himself announced that the Institute of Family, Peasant and Indigenous Agriculture , and the National Council of Family Agriculture will cease to exist.

“After a review of calamitous, deeply devastating data, this Institute and the Council had 964 employees; It is going to be transformed into an address where 64 employees will remain. 900 non-working positions are going to be reduced . This will mean a saving of 9 billion pesos,” stated the national official at the beginning of his usual press conference.

When justifying the measure, which will be implemented by the Minister of Economy, Luis “Toto” Caputo , Adorni criticized “ the celebration of public spending ” and listed: “It had 160 delegations, two headquarters, one in Catamarca and the other in Santiago del Estero, and one in three employees were delegates. They had 204 vehicles and 85% of the budget was dedicated to paying salaries, almost a political employment agency.”

The state news agency Télam is in the same situation, whose workers have been suspended with pay since the president announced in his speech before the Legislative Assembly on March 1 the decision to close it.

Precisely about the situation in Télam, the presidential spokesperson was consulted today: “Everything that we always announce (we do) with the clarification that the processes are often more extensive than one intends . When we make the decision, we first communicate it and then it enters a bureaucratic process. That's why I generally talk about dismantling."

Adorni also revealed another particular situation today: he assured that the Government received 30 trucks from China in recent days “to confront covid . ” “They have arrived with a certain delay, which marks what the management of the pandemic was like during the Government of Dr. Fernández. Of course we thank the Xi Jinping Government for this donation and we promise to use it for better purposes,” said the spokesperson.

During the covid pandemic, where the then Government of Alberto Fernández applied a strong quarantine, China was one of the countries that first sent aid to the country, something that the former president always appreciated.
