In the last hours, hundreds of layoffs were reported in the country at the Argentine Post Office (Franco Fafasuli)
The national government moved forward this Friday with the personnel adjustment at Correo Argentino . Yesterday, hundreds of employees across the country received layoff telegrams as part of the restructuring and “internal reorganization” measures that the Executive Branch is promoting in state companies to reduce public spending .
The layoffs, which are estimated at at least 200 since this Friday, cover all types of personnel regardless of their years of seniority, tasks and functions, sources who know the operations in the company told Infobae . In the coming days, telegrams will continue to arrive at the workers' homes. These are cases that range between 15 and 30 years old in the postal service of headquarters in the City of Buenos Aires, province of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, La Pampa, Catamarca, Tucumán, among others.
The company had already started the cuts months ago, but the measures now gained new momentum. Next week, the launch of an official proposal for voluntary retirements of greater scope than the one already in progress is scheduled, according to sources from the Chief of Staff told this medium.
Specifically, employees interested in the proposed termination of their contract will be able to access a voluntary retirement simulator from a company intranet. The value that appears would be non-negotiable. With a methodology similar to what is happening with other State companies, the intention is that the offer is maintained for a short period of time and is more beneficial than unilateral layoff.
In the last hours, the testimonies of the now former workers were replicated on social networks. Javier Alejandro Villoldo , 52 years old, said that he received notification of his separation, and with it, the closure of the branch in the town of Corcovado, in Chubut , 90 kilometers from the city of Esquel. “There have been 28 years in the company, in which I always gave everything with a lot of responsibility and commitment as it should be. Today I find myself on the street, going through a horrible moment that I wouldn't wish on anyone. At my age it is not easy to find a new job either, for the system I am already considered old,” he told Infobae anxiously .
The mechanics are repeated in different parts of the national geography. In Rosario , the head of the union, Walter Palombi , said that “about 25 colleagues received telegrams with layoffs” without cause in the last few hours. “In the majority of cases, impeccable colleagues with many years of experience in the post office were fired ,” considered the union leader. Starting this Monday, a fight plan will begin in that section with informational assemblies in each office throughout the day.
Next week a voluntary withdrawal plan will be made official in Correo Argentino
In La Pampa , another eight employees were fired in General Pico, Santa Rosa and other locations. “They took out colleagues who have been there for 5 years and others who have been there for more than 20 years, they swept them away,” the general secretary of SOECYT La Pampa, Ricardo Gómez, told local media .
At the end of last year, the company had more than 16 thousand employees . The Argentine Post Office is the sixth body of the national public administration with the largest amount of resources. The management of President Javier Milei reduced the plant by 81 employees between December and January , but in the following months the “drip” cuts continued . Another case like that of Corcovado was the closure for “operational reasons” of the office of the city of Lima, located in the province of Buenos Aires, which caused the councilors of Unión por la Patria de Zárate to present a draft resolution so that the branch is kept open. But the claim did not prosper and did not obtain the necessary majority.
The maximum objective of the “chainsaw” in the official mail is to reduce the plant by half. The final destination that Javier Milei intends to give to the firm is still under review. The first signs emerge from the negotiations between the ruling party and the dialogue blocs with the signing of the latest commission opinion in the Chamber of Deputies, which will begin to be discussed this Monday to achieve the approval of the "Bases Law."
In “Annex I” of that mother text for libertarian management, of the total of 40 state companies to be completely privatized, only 4 remained in that category: Aerolíneas Argentinas, Enarsa, Radio y Televisión Argentina (RTA) and Intercargo. Correo Argentino was in the category that is subject to “ partial privatization or concession ” along with four other public companies such as Agua y Saneamientos Argentinos (Aysa), Belgrano Cargas, Corredores Viales and Sociedad Operadora Ferroviaria (Sofse). In the nineties, the official mail was concessioned under the orbit of the Macri Society (Socma), which still has a lawsuit open for more than 20 years against the national State for a controversial bankruptcy process .
