The national government ratified its position of not approving the latest Truck Drivers' salary agreement

Following Pablo Moyano's threat to launch a national strike if this Monday the Government does not approve its latest salary agreement, the Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Francos , ratified the position of rejecting the agreement. In addition, the national official spoke about the modification of the income tax floor and the support of the governors of Together for Change to the Base Law.

“The Minister of Economy (Luis Caputo) said clearly that the Government is not going to validate increases above inflation . We will have to see how this discussion is raised and what measures the Government will take if a strike occurs. I think that these nonsense from Pablo Moyano, to all Argentines, has already made them a little fed up. So the Government will do what it has to do, from the moment the measures are taken,” said Francos, in communication with radio Rivadavia .

“Why are you going to approve something that doesn't make any sense?” were the words that Luis Caputo used , days ago, warning that the Casa Rosada is not going to validate the joint agreement of the Moyano guild.

In fact, the head of the Interior portfolio assured what the measures that the Government could carry out could be, after a reaction from the union. “ The Government has its tools. The union will do what it wants, and the Government will take the measures that it is legally authorized to take. Mandatory conciliation is a possibility , because it is a tool for these union crisis situations. If that happens, that measure can be taken, without a doubt,” he explained.

Bases and Profits Law

Likewise, Francos also confirmed that in the Base Law project the income tax floor will be modified , and that its number would be above the 1.2 million pesos that was initially handled. “ It is clear that we are going to increase the profit floor in the proposal, this is what the Minister of Economy is finishing analyzing with his team, to see how this impacts the treatment of the Law and the Zero Deficit, which This is what the national government is permanently supporting. Surely the profit floor will be between those numbers (between 1.5 million pesos and 2 million pesos), and the scales are progressive . There was also agreement on that,” said the libertarian leader.

Furthermore, he clarified: “ The Law will have an article that establishes that it is not retroactive to the first quarter of the year . ” The same thing, and it is worth clarifying, that the current situation would force us to pay profits for the last quarter of last year, because it was outside what the Law establishes, and it is something that we are going to correct in the project, which is exempt from the income tax too.”

In reference to the new Base Law, the Minister of the Interior also spoke about the negotiations being carried out by the national government with the closest governors.

“We are talking to find out what the position of the different legislators will be in supporting the Law (Bases), but it is what is usually done with the treatment of any law. The treatment of the first Law was much more complex, because it had several issues, and generated some questions from them (the governors), and perhaps that was where we got stuck and decided to withdraw it . Now we have condensed it into the issues that we consider most important and of greatest significance, to generate rapid investments that will allow this rebound in the economy to take place, which we are convinced will occur in the second semester , and on those points, we have observed In these conversations with governors and legislators, there is important support,” he explained.

The national government continues in negotiation with the governors of Together for Change

“The idea is to finish this next week with all the conversations, to refine each of the points of the Law, since there is always some drafting issue or something that is pending. And after this week, the deputies will decide how to deal with it, the plenary of commissions that are dealing with it. Let us not forget that this Law is currently in Congress, in the Chamber of Deputies, in that plenary session of commissions that dealt with it at the beginning. So that same plenary session will have to deal with that same Law, with the agreements that we have reached, to convert them into a definitive law or a half-sanction , because then it has to go to the Senate,” Francos revealed.

And he concluded: “In all these meetings that we meet with Governors, each one expresses the internal problems they have, and how their relationship with the Nation is. There are always complaints from the provinces of the Nation , for certain contributions, which are always topics of much discussion and much debate, but beyond that everyone expressed their support for the Law. And in no way did what they were proposing mean a condition for your vote. It was a very cordial meeting, in which we discussed all aspects, and in general, there is important support for the project of the governors of Together for Change .”
