The picture with the face of the Blessed, who will be proclaimed a saint on February 11 in a celebration to be held inside the papal basilica, was unveiled today. Pope Francis will canonize Argentinean Blessed Maria Antonia de Paz y Figueroa, known as Mama Antula, on Sunday, February 11 at 9 a.m. in Rome (4 a.m. in Argentina). Her official image was unveiled at St. Peter's Basilica, where the ceremony will be held. This will be the first canonization inside the basilica. Francis, a devotee of Antula, declared her blessed in 2016. The Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge Ignacio García Cuerva, highlighted the protagonism of the laity and women, encouraging them to live holiness in the present. He highlighted the presence of the Argentine president, Javier Milei, at the ceremony.

Gerardo Di Fazio, Vice Postulator for Vatican Causes of Canonization, tells the story behind the canonization of Maria Antonia de Paz y Figueroa, known as Mama Antula. He highlights the initial effort of a small group of enthusiasts to promote her cause and the subsequent transformation into a vast cause. The official image used at the canonization mass is a copy of a picture painted by José de Salas, who portrayed Mama Antula shortly after her death in 1799. Although Salas was only able to make sketches of Mama Antula's face, the portrait became an iconic representation of the saint.

Dr. Silvia Correale, who defended the postulation of María Antonia de Paz y Figueroa before the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, spoke to Infobae and gave unknown data about the woman who will be canonized this Sunday, February 11 at the Vatican. From 1998 until today, he researched her letters, the testimonies of those who knew her in the 18th century and analyzed in detail the graces she was granted and her miracles.

Dr. Silvia Correale, postulator to the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, led the investigation for Mama Antula's canonization since 1998. Educated in the Catholic faith and with experience in the Church, Correale embarked on the mission to confirm Mama Antula's miracles and explore her life and work. Mama Antula's cause is the oldest in Argentina and faced many obstacles over the years. The postulator collected testimonies that highlight Mama Antula's influence and charisma in colonial Buenos Aires, revealing her assistance to the needy and her participation in the spiritual and social life of the time. Her work in assisting prisoners and her anticipation of historical events such as the English Invasions show her importance in the society of the time.

The miracles that led Mama Antula to be canonized as the first Argentinean Saint were fundamental in the process of her beatification and subsequent sanctification. The first occurred in 1904, when a religious sister was cured of a fatal illness after praying to Mama Antula. This miracle was rigorously investigated and confirmed by the Catholic Church. The second miracle occurred in 2017, when a man who suffered a stroke was completely cured after a friend prayed to Mama Antula for her intercession. Medical documentation and testimonies supported this second miracle, ultimately leading to Mama Antula's sanctification by Pope Francis in 2024. The figure of Mama Antula, a woman of great courage and moral authority, remains relevant in today's society as an example of freedom and courage for Argentine women.

I didn't know the story! It's good to see that after so much the pope is relating to the Argentine people with this great gesture. I hope to see the mass live and hear the words for Mama Antula.
