The Railway Union (UF) and the Association of Argentine Railway and Port Management Personnel (APDFA) declared themselves in a state of alert and permanent session this Monday, after confirming that dozens of employees of the Railway Infrastructure Administration company Society of the State (ADIFSE) were prevented from entering their workplace. The union organizations repudiated the fact and requested an urgent meeting with the sector authorities to deal with the situation.

"I am aware of having learned that on this day, dozens of workers were prevented from entering to carry out their normal and habitual tasks at the ADIFSE Company , without any reason or cause, the signatory Trade Union Organizations strongly repudiate this attitude , declaring in State of Alert and permanent session in the entire railway sector and requesting an urgent meeting with the competent Authorities to deal with this situation”, begins the press release shared by the unions, and which has the signatures of Sergio Sasia (UF) and Adrián Silva (APDFA).

Furthermore, in the text issued, they explain: “ ADIFSE is a Company whose purpose is the Planning, Execution and Control of all Maintenance, Improvement and Renewal Works of the Railway Infrastructure , Works that have been practically inactive for a few months and "which are essential for the optimal state and development of the Railway network, with the workforce being a fundamental pillar for its realization."

“If Argentina is to develop and produce, the Railway is a fundamental tool to achieve this ,” the statement concludes.

The Railway Union statement

The headquarters of ADIF (Infrastructure) and DECAHF (Development of Railway Human Capital) began the day this Monday with security at the door . In fact, they speak of 135 layoffs in the Infrastructure area, among which there would be no hires among those laid off , but rather employees with years of seniority, according to sources close to the sector. The workers were blocked from the system over the weekend and this Monday they found themselves unable to enter from the turnstiles.

Argentine Train Services with modifications

In the last few hours, it was confirmed that two of the Trenes Argentinos services will undergo alterations with respect to their current diagram. On the one hand, the train to Pinamar will run only on weekends “temporarily,” according to the company. Until now, a daily service was offered in each direction that transfers with the Plaza Constitución – Mar del Plata train.

While the train between Retiro and Palmira, province of Mendoza , with a biweekly frequency, will run limited to Justo Daract, in the province of San Luis. The entire journey "was suspended, momentarily, since after carrying out a detailed study of the infrastructure, it was concluded that the conditions of the track laying do not provide the necessary operational guarantees for the transfer of passengers," SOFSE announced.

And the train between Bahía Blanca and Plaza Constitución will continue to be suspended “due to the state of the track infrastructure, which is not suitable for the safe circulation of passenger trains,” according to the operator. This service has been suspended since the derailment that occurred in March 2023 and there is no prospect of it being rehabilitated in the short term.
