The Upper House voted again for the elected authorities on December 13. The only thing missing was the second Vice Presidency that UxP proposed to Senator Sapag. The opposition questioned the ruling party for blocking the mega DNU debate, called President Milei “Caligula” and dedicated 15 issues of privileges to them

The Senate holds a preparatory session to elect its authorities , in which the ruling party of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) will seek to ratify those elected on December 13, when it obtained the support of the majority of the opposition groups to retain the Presidency. Provisional, the Parliamentary and Administrative secretariats and the majority of the places in the 46 commissions that make up the body. All that remained was to name the third vice president corresponding to Unión por la Patria , which was proposed to Senator Silvia Sapag, an ally of the K and who belongs to the Neuquén Popular Movement.

In the session, it is estimated that senators from the Frente de Todos (FdT) will once again complain about the composition of the commissions and add complaints about the decision of the vice president, Victoria Villarruel, not to set a date and time for the special session requested to debate the Decree of Necessity and Urgency 70/23 that Kirchnerism seeks to repeal.

Yesterday's Parliamentary Work meeting served to ratify the date of the session and sought to establish an order for today's day. The official legislators, together with radicals and other blocs, except the interbloc led by José Mayans, agreed that today they will vote on the days in which the Senate will meet during the ordinary period that begins next March 1; that the authorities are then ratified and, thirdly, that the Frente de Todos designates who will occupy the Vice Presidency of the Senate.

Minutes after the session began, Unión por la Patria began the issues of privilege against the head of the Chamber, Victoria Villarruel, for having denied the three requests for a session to discuss the mega DNU 70/2023, the decree that deregulates the economy.

One by one the Peronist senators asked to speak and asked questions of privilege against the head of the Upper House who only responded as established by the regulations.

Although most of the privilege issues pointed to the closure of the Senate, there were also some that pointed to the president Javier Milei for his verbal and social media violence towards legislators and governors. There were also issues of privilege for the President and Foreign Minister Diana Mondino due to the position they showed regarding the Malvinas issue and the trip of English Prime Minister David Cameron who visited the Malvinas days ago.

Villarruel was upset by the complaints that Senator Eugenia Duré made regarding the Malvinas and told her that she was “ the daughter of a Malvinas veteran” and that the cause was an issue “that is a very present issue in my house, so "I ask you not to engage in cheap politicking with the Malvinas cause."

In this step by step of privilege issues against Milei and Villarruel, Antonio Rodas from Chaco pointed out to Milei whom he said that, as a consequence of the way in which he refers to legislators and governors, he decided “to stop calling him President or Milei and I'm going to call him Caligula” in relation to the fact that he behaves like an emperor.

Villarruel opened his microphone at that moment to ask Rodas to “address with respect” the figure of the President of the Nation, which bothered Rodas who responded that he will do so “when he respects us.”

One of the particular requests was that of Senator Corpacci who made a question of privilege against President Milei for his statements against the legislators but she did so saying that "this is something that you should do - for the ruling party blocs -."

One of the last to speak was the president of the Unión por la Patria itnerbloc, José Mayans , who gave a tour of what he understands are the bad decisions of the Milei government , the violence with which it addresses legislators and governors. , again referred to his understanding that the President is “psychologically unstable.”

Finally, there was a clash between Mayans and Villarruel over the removal of the bust of former president Néstor Kirchner from the Upper House. The man from Formosa demanded to know where he was moved. “The bust is in the Archive,” Villarruel responded. When asked why he was removed, the president of the Senate pointed out that it was his decision and that she did it because “He was not a senator, he was not vice president and I am not his widow.”

At the end of the session, the Unión por la Patria interblock, made up of 33 senators, ended up presenting 15 issues of privilege against the President of the Nation, Javier Milei, and the President of the Senate, Victoria Villarruel.
