The property was inaugurated on October 18, 1950 and is a peculiar combination: two connected buildings, one of them already existing as an industrial warehouse and the other newly built next to it.

The construction of the Paseo del Bajo promoted the development of a new Buenos Aires neighborhood

Recently, the imposing building of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) , located at 802 Azopardo Street, in the historic neighborhood of San Telmo and meters from Puerto Madero , was included in a UNESCO list along with other prominent union headquarters of Australia and Denmark. The result: there is a palpable expectation that this emblematic place will be officially consecrated as a World Heritage Site for Workers .

The news was announced through a statement released by the CGT, through its co-secretary Héctor Daer, who shared the news on his social networks. In the statement, the CGT highlights the importance of this building, inaugurated on October 18, 1950 by the then president Juan Domingo Perón , as a reference space for the Argentine labor movement and the scene of transcendental events in the history of the country.

The building was designed by architect Jorge Sabaté.

This iconic building, donated by María Eva Duarte de Perón through the Eva Perón Social Assistance Foundation, was designed by architect Jorge Sabaté, who also held the position of Mayor of the city of Buenos Aires between 1952 and 1954. Its architecture rationalist , with a careful corner layout and a play of volumes of pure prisms, distinguishes it as a heritage jewel.

The building houses several significant spaces, such as the Felipe Vallese Room on the first floor, a Museum dedicated to Eva Perón on the second, a library on the third level and the Board of Directors Meeting Room on the fourth . Over the years, the headquarters in Azopardo witnessed union power and experienced moments of internal tensions, military interventions, robberies and political disputes.

The front of the building located at Azopardo 802.

The architecture of this construction, associated with the Peronist era, follows a rationalist style with Art Deco touches, although a little later. In reality, it is a peculiar combination: two connected buildings , one of them already existing as an industrial warehouse and the other newly built next to it.

Héctor Daer expressed on his social networks that “the fight for workers' rights in Argentina is strengthened in the iconic CGT building in Azopardo” and that UNESCO's consideration is “ a source of pride for our country .”

The building has non-functional spaces such as the auditorium: very small and without a lobby.

UNESCO's proposal seeks to recognize the development of the labor movement and its democratic value worldwide.

UNESCO's proposal, called Workers' Assembly Halls , seeks to recognize the development of the labor movement and its democratic value worldwide.

It is relevant to remember that the CGT building has held the title of Historical Heritage of the Argentine Republic since September 12, 2007, through a decree signed by the then president Néstor Kirchner.

Quartier del Bajo consists of two luxury towers located between Huergo and Azopardo, with views of the City and the river.

This building with rationalist architecture, located a few blocks from the modernity of Puerto Madero, establishes a marked contrast between the history rooted in the union headquarters and the contemporary dynamism of the prosperous port neighborhood. In this context, a few blocks away there is a microzone where construction is experiencing a notable boom , reflected in sales peaks.

This phenomenon occurs a few meters from the CGT, on Huergo Avenue, and is explained by the fact that it was an area of the city that benefited from the development of the Paseo del Bajo in which the two emblematic projects that sold the most apartments in a recessive scenario.

Among them stands out Quartier Del Bajo , located on the border of San Telmo with Puerto Madero, which managed to sell its first 132 units in just two weeks two years ago . A few meters away is Huergo 475, a project by Consultatio and Criba, which together with Quartier del Bajo de Argencons, total more than US$200 million in investments.

Huergo 475, the project developed in an unexpected area of the city with panoramic views of the city and the river.

The area went from being an area of trucks, heavy traffic and container walls to becoming one of the most coveted corners of the city of Buenos Aires by real estate developers . From infrastructure works such as the metrobus, and the renovation of Parque del Bajo - which required more than US$650 million - this new pole emerged at the southern head of the route that aims to attract new residents and tourists. In addition, it promises to be an attractive investment for temporary rentals with income that could exceed 5 percent per year in dollars.

“The change of area is a fact that is happening in Huergo, which began to be generated with the Paseo del Bajo and which added important projects, first with Quartier Madero Urbano, and now with the Consultatio tower and the two in Quartier del Under that they offer almost 2,000 new units,” details Carlos Spina, partner of Argencons. “When we started our first Quartier in the area-a venture located in Azopardo and Independencia, the view was a wall of containers and trucks. Today with the Paseo del Bajo, the landscape is completely different, with the dikes and the river in sight,” says Spina and points out that it has 270,000 square meters under construction, a record figure in the history of the developer.
