Workers grouped in the state union will demonstrate again this Monday against the National Government to demand layoffs in the public sector.

After the mobilizations of recent weeks, on this occasion it will be the employees of the National Secretariat for Children, Adolescents and Family , who - through the Association of State Workers (ATE) - are preparing a measure of force in the next few hours in front of the former Social Development building.

As they announced in a statement, ATE plans to "demand" from the head of the Secretariat in question, Pablo de la Torre , "the cessation of layoffs and the immediate reinstatement of the laid-off workers."

In this framework, and due to “the perverse methodology that the Government of Javier Milei has been generating”, the union called on the workers to meet today at 8 in the morning “at the door of each device to guarantee entry to each headquarters ”.

After noon, at 1 p.m., the mobilization will begin from the National Secretariat for Children, Adolescents and Family, located at Juan D. Perón 524, to the intersection of 9 de Julio and Belgrano avenues.

Daniel Catalano, general secretary of ATE Capital, confirmed - in dialogue with Noticias Argentinas (NA) - that an open radio will also be held at the door of Radio Nacional in rejection of the emptying of public media.

Days ago, De la Torre questioned that “this hyper State” was what “led us to this poverty.” “If the number of appointments had been efficient, we would be better off ,” he said, defending the cuts being carried out by the Executive Branch.

Regarding his area, the official explained that in the last 5 years the number of employees has doubled. “In 2019 there were 4,500 positions, while currently there are 8,000”; For this reason, they will continue to “evaluate the contracts” and “the exact number of casualties.”

Last Wednesday, ATE mobilized at the Anses headquarters in rejection of the layoffs and the closure of 72 branches that operated in different parts of the country, within the framework of an offensive by unionism to resist the policy of adjustment and downsizing that put Javier Milei's government is underway.

ATE will protest again against the layoffs promoted by the Government
“They want the AFJP to return and we have to prevent it. They are trying to destroy a public and solidarity distribution system that once had the highest coverage rate in all of Latin America,” said Rodolfo Aguiar, Secretary General of ATE.

“The massive layoffs in the organization are part of a strategy to generate the conditions that allow international financial entities to once again do business with our monthly contributions. Those who still receive their salaries from the AFJP should serve as an example. They cannot even exceed the levels of destitution in our country,” he continued.

According to the survey carried out by the union, which was released in a statement, the dismissals took place in three batches: 350 who had joined as managers; 120 by the decree of Minister Luis Caputo that rescinded the 2023 income; and around 900 at the end of March. That is, “ more than 1,370 fired so far ,” ATE counted, according to the press report.

Last Friday the union celebrated the CGT's decision to call a general strike for Thursday, May 9, although it did not rule out launching a new measure of force at the national level.

“The CGT's decision to announce a new general strike is absolutely correct, although in the case of the state strikes we may need a stopover prior to May 9. The thing is that rights in the public sector are being brutally violated. We not only face layoffs, but also the freezing of salaries and a serious disinvestment that puts the functioning of state agencies and areas at risk,” Aguiar said.

In the State, the fight plan cannot be stopped. “We are being brutally attacked and we have to continue acting in legitimate defense,” he added.

The leader also highlighted the call for a mobilization for May 1 by the CGT and announced: "We are going to reconvene a national plenary session of delegates to define the next actions." In this way, the union could promote a new measure of force from the Front of State Unions and Public Companies before the end of the month.

Aguiar recalled that “the need for a general strike had already been raised and resolved by ATE.” “A new measure of general strength was needed that would allow the demand of all social sectors to be united. The Government's economic measures are destroying everyone. Retirees earn a pittance that they will now be paid in installments. Shops have to close because sales plummet. The economic measures affect small and medium-sized businesses, industrialists and the negative impact is also beginning to be felt in all regional economies,” he added.
