Tonight, the Unión Tranviarios Automoto (UTA) confirmed through an official statement that it will join the general strike next Thursday, May 9 , the day on which it will not provide services, from 00:00 to midnight.

“We inform that as a consequence of the measures of the National Government taken directly against the working people, and openly aimed at violating basic individual rights , the Unión Tranviarios Automotor joins the claim of the entire society, and adheres to the measure ordered by the CGT ”, detailed the publication they made.

Along the same lines they continued and pointed against the government: “We ask the authorities who have in their hands the decisions that are affecting the lives of the vast majority of the People , to reflect and understand the scope of the mandate that was granted to the Executive powers. and Legislative , and that based on this and compliance with the National Constitution , act accordingly, in defense of the interests and well-being of all Argentines."

On Monday night they also reported from the Union Association of Subway and Premetro Workers that they adhere to the national strike on May 9.

“From the Union Association of Subway and Premetro Workers (AGTSyP - Metrodelegadxs) we adhere to the national strike called by the CTA of Workers, the CGT and the Autonomous CTA,” they officially communicated.

In the same way as the UTA, the strike they will carry out will be 24 hours. “We call for a strike in rejection of the transportation tariff, in repudiation of the Bases Law project and the government's DNU because they do not represent any benefit for the majority, for those who have the least, nor for the workers who would pay profits again when 120 thousand millionaires would stop paying for personal assets,” they said.

“The Law consecrates a country for a few, consummates the surrender of sovereignty, the destruction of the national industry and employment, benefiting a few,” they pointed out against the government and spoke out against the DNU, the Bases Law, the high tariff. in transportation and Labor Reform .

The UTA measure is added to the strike promoted by the CGT for next Thursday, where it is also expected that there will be a measure of force by train and subway workers, complicating mobility throughout the country, with the focus main in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires.

Thus, on Thursday the labor union would carry out its second general strike against Milei's administration: the first was carried out on January 24, just 45 days after the libertarian's inauguration and, although a large crowd was expected, on that occasion it had little compliance. Now the focus will be on the debate on the Bases Law and the fiscal package that will begin in the committee debate this Tuesday. The Government's intention is to achieve full approval of the laws before May 25, where the famous “ May Pact ” will take place , which Milei announced at the opening of the ordinary sessions.

Under this context, this Tuesday, a Cegetista delegation will meet with senators from Unión por la Patria to reject the official projects, while the Secretary of Labor, Julio Cordero , and other officials will defend the initiatives before the commissions.

It will take place in the Senate and will be to defend their positions on the Base Law and the fiscal package, which will also be discussed in committee with the official expectation that they will be voted on the day of the strike.

The CGT delegation , led by Héctor Daer (Health) and Pablo Moyano (Truck Drivers), will attend the Upper House at 4:00 p.m. to justify their rejection to the national senators of Unión por la Patria, led by José Mayans. the labor modernization included in the Base Law and the restitution of the Income Tax provided for in the fiscal package. A similar meeting of the CGT with the block of senators of the UCR, chaired by Martín Lousteau, has yet to be confirmed.

The unionists had already held a similar meeting with the senators of Unión por la Patria that took place on April 10 at the Cegetista headquarters of Azopardo 802. There, the legislators promised not to vote “anything against the workers.” “We are not going to vote on anything along those lines, such as, for example, the return of Profits,” Mayans said. Daer, for his part, clarified to the senators that the CGT was not negotiating labor reform with the Government, although later the first official meeting of union members took place at the Casa Rosada, where this issue was discussed.

Although the CGT managed to get the Government to eliminate from the Bases Law many articles that affected the union fund and its interests, it still objects to points that "affect labor rights", such as the one that creates the figure of "independent worker" that can have up to 5 other “independent workers” to carry out a productive undertaking, or the one that includes the “increased compensation for dismissal motivated by a discriminatory act”, in the union's sights because it weakens the possibility of reinstatement of the laid-off worker.

The labor union will also go against the chapter that changes the labor status of public employees, from their stability in the position to the limitation of strikes and the sanctions to which they are exposed, including the solidarity fee that employees receive. state unions to finance themselves additionally (point eliminated from the Bases Law for private sector unions).

For their part, different ministers and government officials will present this week to the Senate before the General Legislation, Constitutional Affairs and Budget and Finance committees to provide details and justify the two bills that President Javier Milei wants to have sanctioned before signing. with the governors of the May Pact, on the 25th of this month.

In addition to the Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Francos; the deputy chief of staff, José Rolandi; the Secretary of the Treasury, Carlos Gumerman; the Secretary of Strategic Planning, María Ibarzabal Murphy; and the Secretary of Energy, Eduardo Rodríguez Chirillo, the Secretary of Labor, Julio Cordero, is scheduled to attend this Wednesday to defend labor modernization before the senators.

Libertarians admit that the latest version of labor modernization approved by Deputies “is not a reform, but a minimum step that marks a trend . ” They are confident that, despite the pruning of their content, the 16 articles that survived will help generate employment. Experts in the labor market believe the same: “If they approve the repeal of fines for lack of worker registration, 80% of the country's labor problems would be resolved ,” they point out.

In this way, both the Government and the CGT will redouble the pressure in the next few hours on the Upper House to sanction or stop the Bases Law and the fiscal package, just in the week in which unionism began the second stage of the fight plan cegetista against Milei's policies.
