Palermo , Almagro, Caballito and La Boca are some of the Buenos Aires neighborhoods that bear the insignia of a renowned Parisian architect , although he also left his mark on several Argentine provinces such as Santa Fe, Córdoba, Entre Ríos, Mendoza and Tucumán. Jules Charles Thays was born in the French capital in 1849 and together with Alphonse Alphand and Edouard André, were responsible for the historic urban and landscaping remodeling of Paris during the empire of Napoleon III.

However, it was not until 1891 that his stay in Argentina became a reality. Thays was the creator, remodeler and expander of 69 public squares and promenades in the city of Buenos Aires , winning the competition for Director of Parks and Promenades , a role he held until the end of 1913.

The Botanical Garden of Buenos Aires is perhaps one of Thays' most emblematic works.

Opened on September 7, 1898, the Buenos Aires Botanical Garden is perhaps one of Thays' most emblematic works in the country. This space is a clear reflection of his ability to integrate landscape art with botany .

In the garden, Thays combined three design styles : Symmetrical, Mixed and Picturesque, with a touch of the Belle Époque that characterised his work. Today, the garden remains a green lung of the city and has a monument in his honour.

This park, located in the Caballito neighborhood , was another of Thays' great works. It was originally going to be created to commemorate the centenary of the May Revolution , but the project was not completed by May 25, 1910. The work continued in stages and was only completed in 1920, seven years after Thays left the Directorate of City Walks. It is a green space where the people of Buenos Aires enjoy nature and various cultural activities . Its design includes a central lagoon surrounded by native trees, following Thays' premise of taking advantage of native flora.

Thays not only improved its original design, but also expanded its surface, respecting the natural slope of the land and maintaining its picturesque style. This park is a green refuge that preserves the essence of old Buenos Aires .

Perhaps one of Thays' most important works in the city , the Parque Tres de Febrero, popularly known as the Bosques de Palermo , was the result of an ambitious remodeling that expanded the green area , adding an area of artificial lakes that became the heart of the park. Its forests, its four lakes (Lago Regatas, Lago del Rosedal, Lago del Planetario and Lago Victoria Ocampo), its squares and the different walks extend along 370 hectares of the Palermo neighborhood .

It was inaugurated on November 11, 1875, but between 1892 and 1913, extensions were made by the renowned French landscaper Carlos Thays. This space is today one of the most visited places by the people of Buenos Aires for outdoor recreation.
