In the midst of the fight to increase the salaries of workers in the railway sector, the national government invited the unions to participate in a joint meeting , in which they will seek to reach an agreement with the representatives of each branch. Despite the call, La Fraternidad refused to participate in the hearing and confirmed that the train strike scheduled for this Wednesday the 21st will remain active.
Through a statement, the invitation was extended by the Secretariats of Labor and Transportation , who assured that the communication channel between the parties remains open. “Tomorrow where the stoppage of services is announced, a hearing is planned to continue the dialogue,” they noted.
In this sense, the authorities highlighted that La Unión Ferroviaria (UF) , the Association of Management Personnel of Argentine Railways and Ports (APDFA) , the Association of Argentine Railway Signalers (ASFA) and La Fraternidad were summoned to appear at the offices of the Ministry of Labor. The first three guilds confirmed their attendance.
Faced with this, the Government pointed out that "the measure of force on the part of La Fraternidad is incomprehensible, which entails bad negotiating faith as the joint negotiating table is in full force." They also recalled that a 16% increase in the gross salaries of railway workers had already been granted at the beginning of February.
The official statement issued by La Fraternidad in response to the call for joint participation
For its part, the historic union accused the authorities of not having complied with the deadline for dealing with joint disputes, as established by current law. "This legislation obliges the parties in conflict to debate fifteen business days, plus five more days, to arrive at a solution to the issue in question, with the State being the moderator of the debate," they noted in an official statement to which Infobae had access .
In this sense, the union asserted that the call for the strike that users of the means of transportation will suffer was “the sole, total and absolute responsibility of the National Government.” In the same way, they denounced that the attitude adopted by the State "violates social peace, constitutional rights and offends users and railway workers in general."
Regarding the three railway forces that will participate in the meeting, the general secretaries of the UF, Sergio Sasia; the APDFA, Adrián Silva; and the ASFA, Enrique Maigua , announced that they will seek to resolve the negotiations regarding the salaries of workers hired by the companies SOFSE (AMBA, Long Distance and Regional, and Central Offices), ADIFSE, BCYL (Belgrano, San Martín and Urquiza Lines ), DECAHF SAPEM, Ferrovías SAC and Metrovías SA

According to the information provided by Télam , the union leaders recalled that in the circular that was published on February 1, the 16% increase and the extension of the validity of the In-Person Bonus that was enabled were made official, with the aim of compensating the gap that existed in the agreements that were closed in November and December 2023.
In this way, in line with the national Government, they affirmed that in the meeting that took place on Monday, February 5, a minute had been drawn up, in which the union representatives, the companies and the National State agreed to go to a interim quarter that would be extended until the update of the price index (CPI) corresponding to January 2024 was announced.
Finally, they indicated that the publication of the CPI data had been proposed as a hinge “to have a clear negotiation parameter with respect to the month of January 2024 and establish a strategy for the remaining months,” in reference to the fact that the new salary amount is not exceeded by inflation. In addition, they indicated that the new value of the Railway Day Bonus that must be paid in March will also be discussed.
After the Government's statement became known, the general secretary of La Fraternidad, Omar Maturano , claimed: "We had no response, no proposal and we did not have any meeting either." Regarding the motivation for the claim, the union member noted: “I am not asking for an increase, I am asking that my colleagues have the same level of purchase,” and added: “We are demanding 500 thousand pesos.”
In a dialogue with TN news , the unionist defended the measure of force by pointing out that "the State does not give us anything, the State rewards us for our work." However, he ruled out that it was a problem with the current administration by indicating: “We have been doing this for several years to all the governments that do not listen to our complaints.” Although the strike remains in force, Marturano assured that the representatives of La Fraternidad will participate in the meeting called by the Government.
