Newcomer Traveling to Argentina with a Dog

Hey all!

I just arrived to BA a week ago from the US and did the journey with my dog! I wrote a blog about my experience with the whole process. It's pretty lengthy but I wanted to share the info for anyone planning to move/visit Argentina with your pet!

Wow, a LOT of people are moving to Buenos Aires with their dogs. I used to own the largest property management company in Argentina and many people traveled with their dogs. It was a big hassle. It sounds like it has gotten easier. Thanks for sharing.

I can’t speak for dogs, but one thing that is wrong is that you can bring pets in through AEP. When my wife moved to BA in September, she came in through AEP with our cat, without hassle. However, SENASA isn’t 24/7 there like it is at Ezeiza.

Oh that is good information to have! I could not find anything concrete about SENASA being at AEP and was worried I would show up and they would deny my dog's entry. The only info I was able to gather was from a blog that specifically mentioned only flying through EZE, but maybe that is because SENASA is not there 24/7. It's good to know you were able to import your cat through AEP. I just sent some emails to the different SENASA locations to get verification straight from them and I will update my blog!

It could be because they’re not 24/7, but it could also be that the vast majority of international travel goes through Ezeiza. We were bringing our cat in from Brazil, hence AEP instead of EZE.

Super easy process though, and it was honestly harder to get her suitcase of books through Aduanas than it was to get our cat through.

Got it! That could make a difference.. well if I get a response back I will definitely update the info!

I was surprised at how easy and quick the process was. So much work went into prepping and then we were at the SENASA desk for all of 8 minutes.

Update: I got a response from SENASA!

"Estimada: usted puede ingresar por aeroparque o aeropuerto con la mascota. siempre y cuando ingrese con la documentaciòn correspondiente."

So, the official answer is "yes", you can import your pets into either AEP or EZE as long as you have the required documentation. I asked in my initial email specifically about importing from the US and this is the response I got.

This is great information. Thanks for sharing. Many times at those airports (and everything in general in Argentina). The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

@earlyretirement i'm a weirdo and bring my dog everywhere, but Milei is on the next level! he cloned his dog Conan that died, and adopted the new cloned dogs (5 like you said...mastiffs, i think?) and gave them libertarian-themed names like Milton Friedman

I don't think it's necessarily strange to want to bring them everywhere. My aunt has a poodle and she treats it better than she treated her children. To her it's her child. But I'm not sure if she had a large dog if she would expect it to be allowed inside.

Milei is fanatical about dogs. My uncle is a fan of his and he went to some political rallies and he said that many times he will seek people in the crowd with a dog and beeline for them to talk to them and pet the dog. I think it is good he loves animals and passionate about them.
