Newcomer Trip to Mar Del Plata

I remember when I first moved to Argentina and was thinking about taking the train from BA to Tandil. My friend from Tandil just laughed and said, “Trains here aren’t like in Europe.” And it’s true! Even if you manage to catch a train, biking might actually be faster. So, go for the bus instead.

The tickets aren't available yet, but I expect they will be released in the coming weeks. You can keep an eye on the Trenes Argentinos website and their social media for updates. However, I see that nobody really recommends taking the train :p

Mar del Plata is very expensive now! Is it worth it? The beach doesn't look nice at all. Never been there and local friends are telling me they are just going to Brazil now that the peso is overinflated. Sounds like many are going to Brazil instead for cheaper.

Very true. Many can go to Brazil for cheaper than staying in Argentina. Argentina will lose a lot of domestic tourism because it is too expensive. There are packages to Brazil and things are cheaper in Brazil now and much better beaches.

It’s true; many locals say that the Argentine coast has become so expensive that they prefer to make the extra effort to visit the beaches in Brazil instead. They do mention that flights from here can be costly, but once there, accommodations and other expenses are often cheaper than in places like Mar del Plata.

Still, I had the chance to explore a bit. I traveled with friends to Mar del Plata, and from there, we went to Villa Gesell, which is truly beautiful. The nightlife in Villa Gesell has a unique vibe, lots of people, a festive atmosphere, and the beach itself is calm and relaxing. On the other hand, Mar del Plata's beaches, especially those near the city center, tend to be crowded and sometimes even packed. For a quieter experience, you have to look for beaches farther south. Overall, it was a great experience!
