The UADE student center understands that participating in the march on April 23 is "defending public, secular, quality education"

Students from the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE) called on students to be part of the university march on April 23 throughout the country with the aim of “defending public education” and showing solidarity with the cause .

The call to participate in the demonstration by the students was made through social networks. “On Tuesday, April 23, the National University Movement is organized to fight throughout the country in defense of public, secular and quality education. As university students, we understand the concern that thousands of colleagues suffer after the threat of stopping their studies halfway, in case many faculties find themselves in the need to close their doors,” reads the text shared on Instagram.

And he adds: “We regret this historic moment and although we understand that we do not share this problem, we empathize and stand in solidarity with the cause . From CEUADE we invite you to march and accompany this fight .”

Likewise, and taking into account the repercussion that the call caused, the UADE students shared a series of arguments to explain the decision.

Many of our teachers are graduates of public universities , we know how much it costs to pay for education and we faithfully believe in the reconstruction of an organized and thriving University Community ,” they said.

Furthermore, they explained: “We have friends, brothers, parents or neighbors who were or are educated thanks to the public university , there is a shared identity, we are all students and in the future we will be co-workers, we believe that we all deserve the same opportunity.” to access education and we must defend public, secular and quality education, it is to defend the country .”

The Federal University March, promoted by all the public universities in the country in demand of funds and in rejection of the adjustment that the government of Javier Milei is applying, will have its concentration in the City of Buenos Aires at 3:30 p.m., before the National Congress , and from there it will go to Plaza de Mayo , where the main event will take place at 6:00 p.m.

For the march, the university students decided to invite the scientific community, student organizations, human rights organizations and “legislators from across the political spectrum and from all levels of the State” to participate.

“The Argentine public university, non-fee and quality, is a national pride and a reference in the world for being a strategic tool for development. Defunding the public university is defunding the future of the country ,” said Lucía Couso , the Senior Advisor of the UBA.

The Government assures that it transferred the funds to the UBA

The national government assured yesterday that “the payment has been signed” of the funds requested by the University of Buenos Aires. He did so through a tweet from the Undersecretary of University Policies, Alejandro Álvarez. However, the UBA denied that version to Infobae .

“On April 9 (7 days ago) you entered the UBA budget expansion request note, you were notified that your requests were accepted and the payment has already been signed . However, they cut off the power to continue spreading panic among the students. It is a lie that they are not going to open in the 2nd quarter , but obviously they want to terrorize and the authorities do it,” Undersecretary Álvarez wrote on X (former Twitter).

UBA sources denied Álvarez's tweet , which was replicated by some accounts and media related to the government. From the UBA they explained that the university has been asking for a budget increase since the beginning of the year and not since April.

The request that Álvarez refers to in his tweet corresponds to “an additional item for university hospitals.” From the UBA they explained that, indeed, the Government responded to that request on April 12 , but that it was only about " the extension of last year's budget for university hospitals ."
