A survey conducted by a real estate agency on social media, with the participation of more than a million visitors, determined that the century-old Palacio Barolo is the most voted among the most attractive buildings in the city of Buenos Aires. In second place was the Otto Wulff Building , known as “the building with 680 eyes” due to the numerous figures that adorn its façade.

The Barolo Palace, located at Avenida de Mayo 1370, in the Monserrat neighborhood, is one of the most emblematic buildings in Buenos Aires. Opened in 1923, it was designed by the Italian architect Mario Palanti on behalf of the textile businessman Luis Barolo . Its design is inspired by Dante Alighieri's “Divine Comedy” , with architectural references representing Hell, Purgatory and Paradise.

At 100 metres high and with 22 floors, the building was a pioneer in the use of reinforced concrete in the city. Until 1935, it was the tallest structure in Buenos Aires, later surpassed by the Kavanagh Building .

On the ground floor there is a shopping gallery with access to Avenida de Mayo and Hipólito Yrigoyen (Gustavo Gavotti)

The Barolo Palace was declared a National Historic Monument in 1997. Today, it houses offices, commercial premises and is a tourist attraction that offers guided tours to appreciate its architecture and symbolism.

In April 2023, the building celebrated its centenary, reaffirming its importance in the cultural and architectural heritage of the city.

There are currently more than 10 offices for sale there, starting at USD 40,000 and going up to USD 100,000, depending on the surface area and condition. The value per square meter fluctuates between USD 1,500 and USD 2,000, when the price of other properties located in the vicinity does not exceed, on average, USD 1,200 per m2.

Construction of the Otto Wulff began in 1912 and it was inaugurated in 1914.

The second most voted building was the Otto Wulff, located on Avenida Belgrano and Perú, in the Monserrat neighborhood. The recent restoration of its façade, started in February 2020, restored the splendor of this architectural gem in the Jugendstil style, which combines Renaissance, neo-Gothic and esoteric influences. Designed by Danish architect Morten F. Rönnow for businessman Otto Wulff.

The façade, known for its 680 eyes in the shape of animals, mythological figures and Masonic symbols, is an object of admiration and mystery.

Currently, it is an office building with spaces for sale from USD 40,000 for 30 m2 units, ideal for small businesses or professional studios. Rents range between USD 8 and USD 10 per m2, remaining an attractive option for those who value its history and strategic location.

Other iconic buildings among the most voted include the Estrugamou, the Palacio de los Patos , the Bencich, La Colorada and the Kavanagh, among others.

These properties have homes for sale starting at USD 250,000 or for rent starting at USD 650 per month.

This milestone coincided with an initiative led by Martín Pinus , from the real estate company Martín Pinus Real Estate, who launched a massive survey on social media so that the public could choose “the most beautiful building in Buenos Aires.”

“It's beautiful to see how people re-engaged with this idea. The architecture, the style of the buildings and the interaction of the public made this something unique. It's not that easy to generate this kind of content, but when we launched it, thousands of people participated,” said Pinus.

The idea came about spontaneously. Pinus added: “We have to choose the most beautiful building in Buenos Aires. And the response was incredible, with participants from all over the country. It was a total pleasure,” said the businessman, who said that on some platforms he had up to three million interactions.

Another survey will be launched in the coming days to select the best “Palaces”. The options will include hotels, buildings that were once homes and now function as museums or embassies.

"We expect a similar response and estimate that it will be completed in 40 days. They are also jewels of the urban heritage of Buenos Aires," said Pinus.
